IMHO another pathetic effort. Experienced players in the side but apart from Parker, Francis and Sheldrick not much to get excited about.

Haven't watched the game, but I'm concerned about the result with the line-up we had today.
People who watched the game, what happened, and could they be poorly coached as has been suggested by some in the past?
Maybe our talent coming through isn't as good as we all thought?

After the terrible injury the Hawks kicked 9 goals in about 35 mins of footy.

To be honest we started well and it went totally south after the delay in play for injury we never reappaired from the race.
Positives - Snell great battle with Windgaurd - Sheldrick, Francis and Parker AFL ready - Edwards is really developing - Buller showing something.Comment

I think we, in part, suffered from the "too tall syndrome" that made us look so impotent in a late season game last year against the Dogs. Although both team lost at least two players midway through the third term (three in our case, because Konstanty sat out the second half as senior emergency) but the fact we lost three smaller runners exacerbated the fact we were generally too tall and cumbersome.
That doesn't explain just how much (or why) the remaining smaller players stopped running after the extended break.Comment

Did the 3rd quarter go for over an hour? That must have been a really bad injury to take that long. Or did they have to wait for the ambulance?Comment

Lukey Parker was very good and still has the goods. Thought when we got 26 pts in front of Box Hill became more physical including many push in the backs and riding the Swans player into the ground. Shockced that not even one free kick was paid for in the back. Apart from parker nothing to get excited about. Francis was very good again and Snell was great early on but faded. Still excited about Will Green's future even though he got very little time on the ground.Comment

Personally, I thought Francis was our best. He took plenty of intercept marks in defence, consistently used the ball well and kicked a very good goal, that for a brief time looked like it could've sparked a comeback. Whereas with Parker, while he got plenty of possessions, I thought his disposal seemed a bit rusty and he turned the ball over a number of times. Though I'm sure that the coaching staff would have been pleased that he ran the game out well.
Much the same with our other inside mids, Sheldrick, Cleary and VFL listed Ben Edwards. All were combative and got their hands on the ball, but I thought they were responsible for too many turnovers.
On a more positive note, I think Will Edwards is looking increasingly like he'll develop into an AFL defender. His pace, agility and confidence all seem to be improving, and while he's always had a booming kick, he now appears to be successfully hitting more short targets, with nice little spear passes. Though I am pleased that he still occasionally just tries to kick it as far as possible, as it is a weapon, because the ball tends to travel ten or fifteen more metres than the opposition were expecting.
Probably another bright note, was that Indhi Kirk was having perhaps his best VFL game, before he left the field concussed, after falling awkwardly in a marking contest. He was covering a lot of ground to provide an option all over the field, and generally wasn't butchering it like most of the side.
But all up, it was a disappointing performance. Especially when the large advantage in the number of AFL listed players is considered. Though as Liz said, the side is a bit unbalanced, with the majority of those listed players being talls.Comment

I’m buying the same ticket. I think the main thing that impresses me is every time I watch him, he’s gone and improved an aspect of his game. He still has a couple of gaps to close, and I’d like to see him against an AFL standard forward - but he’s come from a long way back and got a lot of the attributes you need for the modern game. Plus, I’m still desperate for us to have a 200cm defender needed in the modern game.

It's been a joy to watch him develop. He was like a deer in the headlights in his first VFL games but he is no longer a risky proposition with the ball in hand.
He has all the physical attributes of a quality KPD.
Great closing speed, huge kick, excellent body strength, excellent one on one. He is now reading the play better and is not far from senior selection IMHO, if injury is to strike McCartin or Melican.
He seems to be the best prospect on the list for a debut along with Konstanty this year.
