With a post like that, my self-appointed title as founder and chair of the Hayden McLean fan club is under threat.

I actually think he's an outside chance of making the All Australian team: with a couple of big ifs. The first big if, is that they decide to go with a ruck/forward position, to complement the best ruckman. Rather than two full time ruckmen, or one ruckman and a key forward who's occasionally been seen at a ruck contest. The second big if, is they don't just give it to Jackson on reputation.

But of course, this is coming from someone, who might have given him a Brownlow vote, for indirectly taking Tom Green out of our game against GWS.

They were certainly my best six. And yet another game where Heeney is likely to get Brownlow votes.

I think he's zero chance of making the AA team, or even the squad. But that doesn't make him any less special to us.

Well, the current AA ruckman is Tim English, who many Bulldogs fans seem to regard as soft. While the current AA captain is Toby Greene, who many AFL fans regard as psychotic. So...

Although I'm not being entirely serious, there is a vaguely serious point, as in: since many teams are going with just one genuine ruck, with a forward/ruck giving them a chop out, should forward/ruck be recognised as a specialist position and therefore have a AA spot? Though now that I think of it, AA selectors often have seemed to think that wing, half forward flank and half back flank, were places to park excess inside mids, so I don't really like the chances.

They normally put extra midfielders on the Flanks so the chances of a chop out ruck are next to none

Because it’s not a real team. It’s a nomination awarded as respect for outstanding contribution to the game.

I just watched my recording of OTC - while fast forwarding through the boring bits (ie most of it). When I got to the end I figured I must have been too vigorous in my use of fast forward so I went back and did it again...nothing changed.

They did give me a giggle, however, when they put up a ladder based on form over the last six weeks - an arbitrary period as far as I could tell, expect that it meant Essendon were top. When I looked closer I realised further that they were top because they played six games in those six weeks while we had a bye in one week. Hmmm.

I don't know if it's by design (ie Foxtel has limited budget to do research and put together packages on various matches) or just shows a lack of imagination and co-ordination, but one thing that has long irritated me about the Monday shows is that both OTC and 360 largely focus on the same topics. So a huge portion of the OTC discussion was given over to the Port Hawks game, including a forensic analysis of the clock and whether Port were gifted 19 seconds they shouldn't have had. And then I aim my remote control button at my 360 recording and that same match is the headline focus of that show.

I've been hearing media analysis questioning our 3 tall forward setup (McDonald, Armatey & MacLean), whether it will stand up comes finals.

Previously, they were (rightly) suggesting were too Buddy focused, but now we're unpredictable with even goal spread from the 3 talls plus Hayward, with each having their moments & games.

So i don't buy into the questioning of our tall forward setup come finals because they currently may not be power forwards like Carlton's. I'm also happy with their collective output plus we have the weapon of having a goal scoring midfield which adds further to our unpredictability & scoring prowess!

It's rather rough when Sydney has the most productive forward line in the AFL right now, scoring at 103 points a game.

I did precisely what you did Liz, in addition there was extensive hyperventilating (OTC) about the resurgence of West Coast and how Harley Reid can run fast, then gushing over Scott Pendellbrys career (which is v impressive) .
Although I was also eating my dinner, I dont believe the Swans registered a mention. Its almost like they cant bear the thought (of Swans dominance - thus far anyway).

Personally dont mind it being quiet, results speak for themselves.

Its still early in the year, the signings to date are proof that the people that matter believe we are onto something special.

We have been spoilt with season success but fallen short on the big day too many times to remember.

Happy to tick over and get to the business end and hopefully get over the mountain

Also noticed they included 6 games for Essendon, and 5 for pretty much everyone else. Obviously employing the same graphics designer who does pie charts for The Australian.
Thanks for the heads up regarding these increasingly self-indulgent shows, though. I’d fallen asleep and missed a good chunk of OTC, and so thought any discussion of our match was also missed. Glad to know I don’t need to go through it again.
