General footy chat Round 18: the other games.

Just occurred to me that I hadn't started this thread.

Bit of a shame that Hawthorn beat Fremantle. I'm sort of hoping that Fremantle get a home final: rather than Carlton or Geelong.

Geelong defeated Collingwood. Collingwood's injury list is affecting their form.

Hawthorn defeated Fremantle. I don't mind this result. It keeps Hawthorn in the race for the finals, makes the end of the season more interesting, and dents Fremantle's chances for a top-4 finish.

Carlton and the Dogs are in a close game at half time, with the Dogs leading by three points. This is really one of those games where it's hard to decide who to loathe more. I wouldn't mind the Dogs winning though, for the same reasons as Hawthorn's win, with the added spice that I dislike Carlton more than the Dogs.

Adelaide and St Kilda. Hard to get excited about that one. I hope the Saints bring some meat tenderisers onto the ground to soften Adelaide up with a few soft tissue injuries. We've got Adelaide in the last round.

Melbourne vs Essendon. A genuinely good match. Essendon needs to keep winning to ensure a finals berth, Melbourne needs to win to have a chance at making the finals.

Gold Coast vs Port Adelaide. Gold Coast are a much better team at home, with one of the most lopsided home ground advantages I have seen for a while. Gold Coast are 63.5 points better off at home. Gold Coast play away games like they fly to the venues under their own power. Fortunately, Gold Coast have this one at home.

Richmond host GWS. GWS should put the Tigers away, with Richmond having a long injury list and little more than past glories from aging stars.

West Coast host the Lions in the last game. Hard to make anything of this one. Usually, a comfortable Brisbane win can be expected, but it's not unusual for a team to pull off an upset after losing their coach. I expect Brisbane to win, but not by much.

Poodles and Blues. Hate both teams but the game is an absolute ripper!

The Dogs drive me mad, beyond the obvious reason. Every week I tip them they turn in a stinker. Every week I go nah, lost faith, they show up like they are tonight. I can’t believe I’m saying it but I probably want them to win as it’d confirm our three game gap and all but guarantee top spot - provided something weird doesn’t happen, and touch wood - after Freo lost today.

My strange (6th sense) mate told me 5 weeks ago that the Dogs would win this game.
          I didn’t quite believe him .
          The odds were juicy.

Dogs won. A result I like because it restores our 3-game buffer at the top of the ladder and compresses the teams below us.

As it stands, there's only two games between Carlton in second and Hawthorn in 12th. Gold Coast are 13th but have a home game to come; they could climb back up the ladder with a win.

As I said last week, this season really is bonkers.

Carlton lose again which means Essendon will go to 2nd if they beat Melbourne.

Dees doing ok so far. 15 pts up early in the 2nd quarter.

Looks like Melbourne are home now. Which means our lead will be 12 points plus plenty of percentage at the end of the round. It also means that the Bulldogs are back outside of the eight.

Unbelievable round of footy, every result has gone our way.

Despite the two losses, we are again three wins plus big% clear at the top, that's a fantastic buffer.

Really hoping the Pies don't make finals, Dogs as well of course.

It was a bit cold last night for Essendon.

Will Powell is playing an awesome game for the Suns across the half back flank. And it's quite fun watching Port try to run it through the middle, only to have the door constantly slammed shut.

GWS kicked their highest ever score at the MCG.

                            A whopping 108 points.

Perhaps if they scored more at this venue, they would have a record better than 8 wins and 22 losses.

Probably worth mentioning that their equal lowest ever score was scored here in a Grand Final.

Great prediction regarding the WC vs Brisbane game. Hopefully the Lions’ players are nice and tired after that hard slog on a heavy ground!
