AFLW Round 8 vs North Melbourne

The coming match against North Melbourne will be a difficult test against the best team in the competition. North Melbourne last lost a game in 2023 when they lost the Grand Final. They have been a strong team since they joined the competition in 2019, losing no more than three games in any season.

In team selection news, Sydney welcomes back Ally Morphett and Sofia Hurley from injury, with Rebecca Privitelli and Darcy Moloney both omitted from the team. TEAM: Morphett, Hurley return (sydneyswans.com.au)

Tanya Hetherington gives her view on the Adelaide loss and the coming match against North Melbourne here: Tanya's Take, presented by Bird in Hand - Round 8 (sydneyswans.com.au)

On the AFL website, none of the tipsters have selected the Swans. This is not surprising; it is not wise to tip against a team that is on a long winning streak. I'm not expecting a win here. If there's a game that North could drop unexpectedly, it is this one or their coming matches against Adelaide and Hawthorn.

    Go Swans.

    Previous matches against North Melbourne:
    2024 s9: North Melbourne 14.3 (87) defeated Sydney 4.3 (27) North Hobart Oval
    2022 s7: North Melbourne 9.13 (67) defeated Sydney 0.1 (1) Punt Road Oval

I expect this match will be closer this time, but I'm not expecting miracles. Getting within 30 points of the North Melbourne juggernaut would be a very good result. Their closest result so far is a 29-point win over Brisbane in the Grand Final rematch.

Wonderful news to have Sofia back in the team, she's been a big loss over the past few weeks. A little disappointing to see Bec dropped again, I thought we looked much better across the ground with a strong leading/marking target pushing up the ground last week (even if she didn't rack up big numbers).

Really looking forward to the game today.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Morphett and Hurley are both important inclusions.

I'd say we are bit lucky to be this close. North are so dangerous with quick movement on the outside, but we are taking our chances and our effort is certainly their. Great to have Hurley back, really classy finish.

Smacked in that quarter. We will have to dig deep to avoid a blow-out.

Only question now is will it get to 100 points?

Fish has been taking the kick ins. This keeps Fish out of the play in the middle of the ground. Would Fish be better placed further up the ground?

We were eviscerated, all credit to North they were unreal, a complete team performance. One thing I don't understand is why North supporters don't all flock to watch them, its got to be so much better than watching their men's team lose over and over.
Difficult to give us votes as not a single Swan won their position, but here goes.
                  3 - Fish
                  2 - Tarrant
                  1 - Ham

Well, today it hardly got to the middle of the ground, but it is a fair question to ask. More curiously is why we left McEvoy out on the wing when the ball was living in our D50.

13.10 (88) to 3.2 (20) is not a surprising result in the end, considering the gap between North Melbourne and the other teams is so huge.

The inside 50 count was 56-16, the result of a dominant performance by the Kangaroos all over the ground. The only bright spot is the Swans managing to score from 31% of inside 50 entries, meagre though they were. However, the Roos scored from 41% of their inside 50 entries.
