Bringing ROK into this situation changes my view on this.
We would lose alot of structure up forward with ROK being the first lead up CHF to allow hall closer to goal.

Also taking into account Spida's age...32 next May.

      Indeed .

      ROK d.o.b : 24 January 1981

      Spida d.o.b. : 3 May 1974
(Hmmm.. I used his nickname .. I must think it's a done deal)
We would give up not just a player , but 7 years of service.

Google search results for "Ruckmen are underrated" = nil.

Google search results for "Ruckmen are overrated"= 83

      Swans hitouts = 33
      Hawks hitouts = 46

Swans have 13 less hitouts - but 63 more points.

Swans v Hawks , Round Twenty Two:

      Swans hitouts = 37
      Hawks hitouts = 38
One less hitout , 54 more points

So if we give up ROK , ask for Sam Mitchell in return.
Not a fair swap , say Hawks ? Well - who's the premiership player?

And if there's one thing this week's proved - we've got plenty of lads on our list already who can't handle their grog !

I can't see the Swans giving away O'Keefe, pick 19 and Saddington for Spider.

It could all be a bet up for the benefit of Spida's new contract.

I note that Gardiner is being offered as trade though. I bet that would be more likely with pick 19 and fringe player as trade.

The whole idea of getting Everitt is bothersome to me. Not because of the player - he's one of the best rucks going around.

But he can surely only have a couple of good years left in him at best. He could be one knee collision at a centre bounce away from the end of his career. I just don't believe he will be worth what Hawthorn are going to want for him. I'm not convinced he's worth even a straight swap for O'Keefe, let alone picks and other players. Another ruckman is important for the team, but O'Keefe's role is critical for the team structure too. There aren't too many other 190cm players who cover the ground that he does, are capable of kicking 30-40 goals a season (more if his accuracy returns to its 2004 level) and can pinch hit as a key marking forward if anything happens to Hall for a few weeks.

Also not keen on Gardiner. I suspect his days as a ruckman are over and he's a pretty ordinary key forward.

I agree Liz. Plus his affect on teams is not that beneficial, in my opinion. I'll never forget being at that game at Waverley when Hawthorn came back from the dead against St.Kilda(Spida's team at the time)and the rot started with actions of Spida. It stood out like the proverbial dog's appendages.

I agree with regards to retaining Rhino. I do understand the thinking that we need to consolidate for the next two years and have a good chance for another flag, but Rhino is too valuable IMO. Especially in the long run. Spida would be a huge addition to the side, and injury aside would be a way of filling the rather large hole left by Ball (who was integral to the finals series this year). However Hawthorn will not let Spida go cheap - who can blame them - and Rhino feels too important in the long term. I have visions of watching him tear us apart in 3 years time as one of the most valuable smaller forwards in the game. It would not be nice to see him doing it in Hawthorn colours, in fact any colours but red and white. He is just developing so well.

Does Rhino want to stay? Do any of you guys know if he is happy here?

I agree with Liz. I'd like to see us get him but he's just not worth it if we have to give up O'Keefe. Saddington & Powell was acceptable but O'Keefe is worth far more than that to us.

I'm a fan of Spida, and would love him at the club. But not for O'Keefe. It's just too expensive.

I have to say, though, that that article doesn't worry me too much. Reads very much like they've taken ROK's uncertainty and the interest in Spida, put 2 and 2 together, and gotten 5.

They're journalists ... I'm surprised you think they got that close
FWIW - I think ROK will stay put, and so will Spider

Sunday Herald Sun says ROK close to re signing. He will not go.

Saddo is the one who will go. His manager was on SEN this morning talking him up regards his knee injury. He wants to come back to Melbourne.

Straight sap for someone like Cupido could be a chance.

Know what you are saying Charlie. Have known Damian since he played Auskick. Played footy with my son for years. Has the talent and perhaps his problem is that he loves himself just a bit too much. He is not a ****head. Needs to grow up in the head.

Someone like Roos might be able to get into his head and harness the genuine talent he has.

Leigh Matthews didn't get through to him. Kevin Sheedy has been trying for three years, and appears to have failed. What will Roos be able to do that these two couldn't?

I'm sure he's not a ********head, but in five years he has never shown anywhere near the level of dedication or maturity needed to be a footballer, let alone one of the Bloods.

Maybe fosdike and saddington for spida?

Sadington just doesn't fit in anymore and fosdike (despite his GF performance), just doesn't have the talent required in the midfield at AFL level.
