Swans related trade talk

From those posted articles, it looks like Spida was giving the Hawks some mixed messages...then said he wanted to move to Sydney after talking with Roos and Hally (and after Ball retired and we won the premiership!). I'm sure he wants to get a premiership medal before he retires.

This puts the Hawks in a difficult position. They wouldn't want to keep him if his heart isn't in it (at least I don't think this would be advantageous) but he's one of a handful of high profile players on their list. They want something for him.

Could we trade Chambers on to the Hawks if they are looking for a ruckman? I don't think our coaching dept would do that to him but I was wondering if the rules allowed it...

Well we've filled 2 of our 4 free (non veteran list) spots, leaving 2, do we still need 3 spaces to participate in the draft?

Recruiting policy

I remember reading the "Roos - off with his head" thread here a few months ago bagging him for reading 'Moneyball' - a book about a US baseball team that always 'topped up' rather than recruiting new talent, and always bombed out in the first week of the finals. Bearing in mind we've done the same thing with people like Jolly and Vogels, even with Craig Bolton and Nick Davis back in 2002/03, does this still apply now we've won the premiership?

But the Oakland A's MoneyBall story and their lack of post-season success is not comparable to the Swans-AFL situtation for the simple reason that the A's lost out to teams like the Yankees and Red Sox who did not have salary cap restrictions.

What's impressing me about this trading period is that the Swans actually seem to have a game plan that they're executing to their advantage. For the time being the other squads just look lost.

Not saying it was comparable or not, just having a friendly dig at the people who were calling for Roos' head because of it

Edit - I gave Davis as an example of one of the trades in my post, he probably is the exception to the rule in Moneyball in that he wanted to come home, and is arguably an example of the type of A-level players that the Oakland A's couldn't afford. (I haven't read Moneyball, just going by the original post)

But even Jason Ball was hardly a big-name player when he came to us in 2000 - and he was a big reason why we didn't bomb out in straight sets this year!

Actually if there is one coach (or coaching team) able to get the absolute maximum out of their players, it would have to be Roos'y and his team.
So hopefully we will be talking about the great deal we did to get Chambers and Richards this time next year.

Yes. At minimum.

If you add that Vogels will get promoted and possibly another.

There will be two or three delistings yet.

Seems that way. With our current first pick in the draft being 55, I'd say one of the following will happen tomorrow:

1. We will trade for lower picks;
2. Barham has tucked a few smokies away in the draft;
3. We will delist then re-draft one of our own players again.
