Why is it good for a player to come back on the feild with a busted ankle ?? could cause serious long term damage i would imagine, an arm or or nose or teeth I can understand, but really.

I have another player to add to the list. Unfortunately it's the captain. I know he is injured, but we can't carry him for the rest of the year if the last two games are anything to go by.

They say he needs an operation. It's a pity it wasn't done a few weeks ago(I presume it's an arthroscope) He might have ben back for the last couple of games fit and healthy. It really is tough but the fortunes of the club can't rest on sentiment for one player, even if he is a great bloke and the captain.

What's happened to the idea of only playing fit players? I thought that this was one of the planks of this years strategy?
Play form players, fit players, and give the kids a go?

With Seymour, Doyle, Fixter, James, Ablett, MJ, Sunny and others waitng on the sidelines isn't it time to spell a couple of other players that might be struggling with injuries and form themselves?

I reckon the coaching panel have been trying to fox opposition teams about Maxy's fitness when really he is out there doing the safe stuff and only operating at about 70%.

I'm not really flush with ideas as to who would fill the void in that centre/wingman type role.

One player with no injuries and who is consistently underperforming is Fossy.

Where did that great form from the last half of 2001 disappear to?

His work rate is below par and his disposal is so ordinary that I seriously do not expect his to hit a target when he gets the nut.

The reality is that none of these things is the reason for the loss, we were not tall enough, commited enough or tight enough in defence in the first half. Even when we had our mini resurgence we didn't play tight enough to strangle the Hawks of any more goals.

These games are bound to happen and for mine it is just another dip in the rollercoaster.

If we play solid footy over the next 3 weeks then one or two wins will come and who knows, if you take good footy into the finals, anything can happen, just ask the Crows.

In 1990, Collingwood got flogged by 100 points in the second last round!

The two reasons I think they brought Willo back on with his ankle were:

The Swans were down by 40+ points when he went off
His injury wasn't as bad as first thought.

Seymour played reserves on Saturday night, so they might push him for firsts along with James - both played v. well in Reserves.

Gees it doesn"t take long for our supporters to start bagging the players. Basically the reason we lost was if 22 guys aren"t having a red hot dip then we will find it hard to match it with any side. We aren"t a team of champions but when eveyone gives 100% we can be a champion team. Don't forget we lost Ball the other week and now that Goodes is doing the ruck work we are missing his drive as he is a player that can play forward and back.
As for Saddington he has not long come back from injury and been thrown straight in the deep end CHB, playing on Carey the other week sure he not just up to it at the moment but think of the experience he will gain. As for Cressa wasn"t he named in the TOTC even the best players have a bad day.
P.S This is the first year of rebuilding for SWANNIES we really have be spoilt to date.

Agreed he did not play well-clearly he is below optimum fitness.
I think he would have had more time off , if he were not the captain.

Roos should bite the bullet and drop him for the Brisbane game -
not because he's a bad player(which we know is not the case),but simply to give him a well-earned and much needed rest.

I think it will be very tough to win on Sunday but I would like too see Stewie refreshed for the Pies game.

Without , our lack of height was really exposed on Saturday nighwanting to state the obvioust. It didn't help that the midfield was smashed but when we did manage to go forward, we really struggled to get marks inside 50, allowed Hawthorn to rebound quickly, and of course Everitt was brilliant.
I reckon we should see what Richmond may want for Richardson - he still has 3 or 4 good years in him and desperately needs to leave Punt Road (maybe even Melbourne) to play his best foty again. Don't know where else we can find some decent talls.

I wouldn't say we are bagging players, just looking ahead. It is good to see now, that most Swans supporters agree we are not serious premiership contenders. So I don't see any harm in looking ahead to next year and posting on what we think we need to take the next step. For what it is worth, I am not at all disappointed with our season this year, but I think we need to cull a few from our list and chase a couple of other KPP players (depending on what is available in the draft). Also I don't see the harm in giving a few others a run this weekend, as it is almost certainly going to be a loss against a full strength Lions side at the Gabba. Surely we can give the likes of Powell, Hunt, Sundquvist, James, Ablett a run at the expense of say, Mathews, Nicks, Maxfield, Stevens and try a couple of others in different positions.

Couldn't aggree with you more Syd Swan about playing more younger guys after all thats what Roosy set out to do. Sydney can only reap the rewards in the future with the likes of Schniedes, LRT and some of the other younger guys getting a run and by given some big roles and responsibilties. As for trading we should look at getting rid of some inconsistent middle aged footballers while they are still worth trading.

Sure....let's look end of season for draft choices and see who's OOC and available, but 4 my book well need next season (provided we don't fold in October ) exactly the same as what we needed this season...a good CHB/FB prospect....a good ruckman (they are so fragile and you DO need to cover their loss - just look at what happens when they don't play: Darcy/Everitt/Stafford/Ball)....maybe another classy centreman/ball getter to replace retiring Cressa, and to help out Willo, Stewie and Jude etc...
If we finish 5th this year it's a good result, as only two or so games will separate top spot and from the others in the 8....
Next year we should be aiming at a top 4 finish...and the flag in 2005/6/7...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I haven't just started bagging them, I am probably the harshest critic on this site along with a few others. I don't think Stevens, Mathews, fosdike and Saddington are up to it at the moment.

2 lossess and c what happens

2 lossess , one a good effort against a genuine top 4 finisher at their home ground and then an ordinary performance at home has really brought out the negative types and the critics.
the loss of jason ball cant be underestimated as our team lack height.
Our team have been sensational this year and there is a lot to like about sydney 2003, so lets all be positive and stop bagging the s..t out of our own players . It is a definite richmond syndrome when they lose richo, campbell, ottens cant play but when they win they are superstars.
some of you ( negative critics ) are probably the same people who booed our boys off the mcg after the 96 grand final. after our boys have given supporters the finest season of football in 50yrs

GoBloods, the reason many of us are being ultra-critical about this loss is because I think it showed that last week's game against adelaide wasnt actually such a good effort. Twice in a row now they have not turned up for the first half. The rest of the game is mostly irrelevant once the contest is over. I've already given my full reasons for this in another thread "2 1st-half no-shows".
