Tiger Hall meets with Swans
12 November 2003 Herald Sun
Mark Stevens
DISGRUNTLED Tiger Ray Hall flew to Sydney yesterday for a meeting with the Swans.
It is understood Hall's first option is a move to the Harbour City via the pre-season draft.
Richmond has stepped up its bid to retain the 22-year-old, but he is yet to take up the offer of training at Punt Rd.
Although the Tigers appear to have made up some ground, it appears likely he will try his luck in the December 16 draft for uncontracted players.
But because the Swans don't get a pick until No. 14, Hall might not get his wish.
Geelong wanted Hall during the trade period and have fifth pick in the pre-season draft. But Hall rejected the Cats' overtures last month and has done so again.
Sydney appeals to Hall because he is originally from Woy Woy in New South Wales. He is sitting university exams and is expected to make a decision within a week.
Hall was disillusioned with the Tigers after being shopped around in trade week.

So... this is how it stands.
1. Bulldogs - Rawlings
2. Carlton - Stevens
3. Melbourne - According to The Aged, not interested. Probably focussing on Phillip Read, who is training there.
4. Richmond - I don't think they'd be that stupid, but it is Richmond I guess...
5. Geelong - Of particular concern, if they're willing to take a chance.
6. St Kilda - Don't believe they're interested. I doubt they'll take anymore players in the PSD.
7. Kangaroos - Potential danger here, if they look to make up for not getting Jade Rawlings.
8. Hawthorn - Just picked up Croad, Jacobs and Beaumont. Unlikely to be interested.
9. Fremantle - Unlikely to be interested, especially considering Hall won't move to Geelong... so I doubt he'd go to Perth.
10. West Coast - Theoretically, could be interested, but I doubt they'd try it for the same reasons as Freo.
11. Adelaide - Couldn't imagine they'd be interested.
12. Essendon - You never know what Sheedy might do... I'm going to call them a possible danger... does anyone know how many spaces they have left on their list? That might be a deciding factor.
13. Port Adelaide - Won't be interested.
So, the big problems are Geelong and the 'Roos. Personally, I think the Kangas are a bigger threat than Geelong. We hate Anthony Rocca
We hate Shannon Grant too
We hate scumbag Gaspar
But Leo WE LOVE YOU!Comment

Perhaps he nominate a salary that will take the Roos out of the equation?
If the swans come up with a deal, expect Hall to only nominate at the very last minute, such that other teams cant make room for him.
I hope we get him, but I'd say we are only a 30% chance at this stage.Comment

Yeah the only way he'll slip through to us is with a high price tag. We have to hope then that he's worth it!To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!Comment

The Roos apparently have Shane Harvey training with them so they may choose to get over their Rawlings disappointment by uniting some alternative brothers.
Essendon reportedly showed strong interest in Hall last year but Richmond refused to deal, so I agree that they loom as a big obstacle, salary cap permitting.Comment

Can you lie to the other clubs about how much you want?
Like could Hall say to all other clubs that he wants 500000 a season so they back away and then settle with Sydney for 200000?Comment

Geelong would not need him. They already have Ben Graham down back. A key defence combination of Graham and Hall would be ripe for any team to make the kill. Geelong might have been looking at Hall as a back-up ruck option for Steven Kings during the trade period. They have got Loats now so I doubt they would need Hall at all.
If he does not come to term with Richmond, I am pretty confident that he will fall to our pick.Comment

No doubt that Essendon will be interested in Hall. They only have Hille and there is question marks over Matt Allen. They have had Ruck problems for years and have drafted/redrafted players like Barnes/Salmon and Alessio in recent times.

Essendon may well be interest ed but it would be a big turnabout in their attitude to Hall if the comments made during the trading period are taken into account. Sheedy said that Essendon were insulted when Ricmond were pushing Hall as part of a trade for Solomon . Still with Sheedy involved, a complete about face is always possible.WMPComment

Recent history has shown that most clubs are spent salary cap wise come PSD and don't have room for anybody. I don't know if anyone has the details but just how many clubs participated last year?
