Ok before Jules bites on that one, OUCH! I personally take offense at that one - it's not a matter of growing up - it's a matter of getting out and supporting your team. there are a group of us, and not just in the CS, who believe that making noise and getting behind the boys in a way they can see or hear can be the difference. I'm so sick of people telling us we have no idea, when we've got more of an idea than the bloody latte-sippers who rock up to be seen, call the ump a ref, a mark a catch and still can't figure out what use a behind is. That attitude is what makes crowds dead - always has, always will, and if you want to condemn us for having a go and trying to get behind our team, fine, but don't blame us when the crowd doesn't get up to get behind the team.

Take all offence you like, I don't give a toss, but don't claim I condemned you or your like who prefer to sit in the worst seats in the house. You add colour (as I said) but not everybody wants to be part of it.

I have decided this year not to sit with the cheer squad (even though i only did a few times last season) the reason being i don't watch any of the game and sitting behind the goals suck as you don't see play very well.

Sorry Jules but your vain attempt at getting atmospheres like European soccer matches wont work. Not in Sydney and not anywhere else. People just don't want to sing during footy matches as it distracts from watching the game. Sorry Jules..just my humble opinion.

The flags are good though and watching the reply this morning KB mentioned THE FLAGS!

BTW IMHO we should stay at the SCG and only play huuuge matches at SA.

For myself, I hate those stupid songs, chanting is fine when neccessary. For mine the great moments are the classic smart arse - spur of the moment comments from the crowd.

I do love the crowd reacting to the game. But would prefer if mindless singing stayed at the soccer.

Another thing in regard to the venue was that the standard of the turf was seriously substandard - Schneider's injury came directly as a result of it as probably did MacDonald's.

That is another reason why this venue hurts us.

Although the crowd was in my prediction (high 20s to low 30s) I thought it seemed very dead at SA last night...to me, at least, there was a lack of atmosphere and noise that gets you going at the SCG... I too can't see any benefit at playing games there that attract fewer people than the SCG can hold... To me, that's probably only two definites at present -- the phylthy pies and dastardly bombers. Maybe Brizzie as a third...anything else is a waste... If Carlton keep improving, then the Blues could make the third game...
And, personally, I have nothing against viewing a match from behind the goals, though if given the choice, my preferred spot is on the fence about centre wing...

I swear, this has to be one of the most ridiculous posts on RWO in my life. We are their not just to watch the game but to SUPPORT our club. OK, if you are not on Swans supporter gear at a match I'm not expecting you to do much cheering etc etc. But when you see people in full Swans regalia not even clapping after goals, I ask you why they even come.

OK, some of us express our emotions differently. But is is that hard to join in the "Sydney!!! Sydney!!!" chant after a goal? Even sometimes.

The thing that erks me is that we are capable of a unbelievable atmosphere at both the SCG and Stadium Australia. But most people seem to need a bomb under them to get enthused about the game at all.

I'm sitting in the worst area of the ground. I get rained on when its wet, I have objects chucked at me at away matches. I leave most matches with my voice all squeaky. I often cannot speak the next day and have a throat that is aching.

I want the players to know that I'm supporting them. Even if most of them would never know my name. Nor would I want them to either, as I generally like to leave the players in peace.

I'm there to do my darndest to get that crowd behind the team. How this can be deemed as exhibitionism is beyond me; I'm only worried about creating a bit of atmosphere for the club, and ask for other supporters to at least try and help me out when I get a cheer going.

Or are most Sydney people above that sort of uncouth behaviour of being as part of a greater collective?!

Dude just relax and do your own thing. It wont happen man, it's not part of our culture and never will be.

The only time i have ever seen a crowd at the footy collectively chant in unison was 10 or so years ago when Essendon beat the coolers in a final and the whole crowd did the sheedy jacket waving. That looks so bloody awesome, when i see the footage these days it gives me goose bumps - not at the dons winning btw.

That was awesome and something i would love to see happen in Sydney, as it would really lift the players. All you have to do is grab yer scarf and wave it above your head. You could still watch the game and do it.

With 5 minutes to go and a good win in the bag this would make full time extra special. Imagine a sea of red scarves and people singing cheer cheer with 5 minutes to go. Awesome. But it will never happen.

JF - you can't expect people to enjoy the game the way YOU do. I know you'd like Aussie rules footy to have a soccer culture, but quite simply, we don't. And we shouldn't. We have an Aussie rules culture.

To each their own. I have a bit of fun in the cheer squad, most of the time. I hate the seats though. I can more than understand the point of people who don't want the cheer squad type experience, and good for them.

Understand why we play there of course, but I have abosulte idiots around me who spend more time saying excuse me to go to the bar than actually watching the game.

Plus I am a 'stuck up eastie' (my best friends description of me today when talking about this issue lol) from whom it normally takes a 10 minute walk to get home from the SCG!! I have too long to think about our losses on the way home from Homebush!

Being an exhibitionis is one thing ... Trying to get the whole crowd behind the team, and making sure the team KNOWS that is another thing. Like I said to someone at Manuka last week, if you want to watch sport without chanting, stick to golf or tennis.

Agree fully. Songs during play are the same as the Wave. Boredom-fillers.

Telstra is good ... Its our play there that sucks! Its a good ground - not too wide so you CAN see across. By the way, Shell Stadium is both longer AND wider!

and your just a ****ing trouble maker who loves nothing but to snipe at people who have differing opinions to yourself. I wasn't surprised to see you had posted the above, because it seems more and more you only post to have a go at people. You don't like what goes on in the CS well fine, the fact of the matter is some of us do. To say that to sit behind the goals at ground level leaves you no chance to have an idea of whats going on is wrong. I have watched football for over 15 years and in that time I have gained a better understand from sitting behind the goals than anywhere else on the ground. I believe that your using this post as a chance to personally attack Julian knowing full well that if you set him off, you'll more than likely come out of it looking the better. You my friend have problems. If you dislike what Julian or anyone else for that matter has to say, keep it to yourself or bring it up in private, because I'm beginning to tire of your sniping to posts of certain people on this site.
