"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005
If the Swans think its a tactical advantage to keep an injury quiet... good for them.
What is not a tactical advantage is playing Goodes in the forward line. If that's the only part of the ground that he's capable of playing as of now, I'd rather he didn't play, and allowed his hypothetical injury to heal.
Really, he is only detracting from our gameplan there, not adding to it.
We hate Anthony Rocca
We hate Shannon Grant too
We hate scumbag Gaspar
But Leo WE LOVE YOU!
Goodes should be playing the majority of each game at ruck rover.
This is the position where Hird and in the past Koutafides have been most damaging.
He would be spared the extra rigours of rucking and because of his mobility and size is still very hard for opposing teams to mark up on.
I am not sure if he is injured or just lost position-wise at the moment. The most disturbing thing about his play this season is lack of accountability in defence.
He seems to be moving OK in attack but when he has to chase down an opponent he looks sluggish.
His hands have also been poor this year - not taking as many contested marks as he is capable of.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
I notice that in last year's AFL stats Goodes was listed at 92kg. This year he's listed at 96kg. I know that the AFL guides need to be treated as an approximation at times, but if he has put on that much weight, could it have affected his leg speed? We've all noticed that he doesn't seem to be running nearly as well this year as he was last, and if it's not an injury causing the problem, maybe it's this. I accept this is complete guesswork, but it may be a factor.
A loss of leg speed might also be contributing to his skill deterioration if he doesn't have as much time (or even if he thinks he doesn't have as much time) to execute, particularly his kicking.

DAMN STRAIGHT!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
The last few games, I think Doyle and Ball would have been able to outrun Goodess from what I saw. If he can't run fast and turn hard he's going to be wasted in the midfield. We need him fit and if you watch him for five minutes you'll realise he's not. (Or his head is really messed up.)

IIRC he started in the ruck that game and was going great guns causing havoc around the ground UNTIL...
Agree, he hasn't been the same since that moment.
It was mentioned about that goal he kicked when he came back on, but that is about all he has done.
And with all the secrecy about injuries... Does any remember that bloke, nickname was Plugger (I think)?? Must have been using the same Minister of Misinformation, back then too.
On TF last night - i know i said im never watching it again, but thats not the point right now - they finally managed to squeeze in some analysis of the swans. I don?t think David Parkin and Tim Watson have any idea on the Swans and how we are going. They are media journos who only read what other journos dish out. They said:
1. Sydney should have won because the conditions favoured us. I don?t know our record in the wet, but I cant imagine its any good.
2. Sydney have been beaten this season because we haven?t been able to stop the monster forwards of the comp. They must have bought Roos? comments about needing to recruit a strong fullback.
3. Goodes has been sadly out of form in the forward line and needs to play in the ruck. The interesting thing about this comment is that Tim Watson added that we should see the Goodes of old once he gets over his injury. What injury? What does he know that we don?t know? Roos, nor anyone else for that matter, has ever mentioned that Goodes was carrying an injury. We have all speculated on this as a possible reason for his slump. Its possible that Watson made a mistake, but Im not so sure.
Maybe it was my mind playing tricks with my ears at 1:30am last night. Anyone?

I think they are just about of the most useless people in the media currently, which is saying an awful lot.

I can't see why they would think this.

I think we've won 3 of our last 9.

I don't think this is the reason we have been losing. I think that is very lazy analysis.
Now Sopranos is back I don't waste my time watching crap such as TF!!
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I would have the thought the Pies game last year would have ended any idea that we were good in the wet.
And the opposition monster forwards could have been up at the Sushi Train early if we denied them possession - as it was, it was Nick D who had time to spare all afternoon.
On Ch 10, they said several players were heading over early (how Thursday is early for a 4 hour flight before a Saturday game is beyond me), but then also that Goodes would be played in the ruck.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
