    Seems the players can't win.

Fossie did get up and speak at the WC aftermatch only to be referred to as patronising. Nick didn't say anything only to be referred to as a stuck up tosser or something similar.

If some of you are of the opinion that Jason Saddington thinks he's gods gift to football. Maybe others see you thinking you're gods gift to football supporters.

Arrogance and skill go hand in hand. You have to know you are good to be good. If you just sit back and think that the other guy is better you will never succeed in anything.

The trouble is few can manage the fine line between arrogant arsewipe and a superstar. A classic example is Pat Rafter and the Poo (can't spell his name). Which one comes across as Mr nice Guy and which one doesn't???? I am sure in there normal life they are both nice people. But they both have the arrogance to be champions.

So it is up to him to show his fans that he can combine the arrogant sportsman, with the I'm a fantastic bloke too.

I'll just take off my sports Psyche hat now!!

I would think it is pretty simple really !!

If N.Davis is arrogant, aloof, sure of himself and downright rude, just simply don't talk or approach the man !! With no-one requesting autographs or his time, I'm sure Davis will get the drift eventually.

I personally couldn't give a rats toss bag about his personality, as all I am interested in is Davis bagging goals for the Swans on a weekly basis. Davis is the best kick for goal in the competition, which is what I like about the bloke - not his perceived arrogance !!
Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looks like a girlfriend,That I had in February of last year, It's not confidential, I've got potential

          Exactly.

It's only a few that have complained about him, so i doubt he needs to change his whole personality to suit them.

I couldn't give a damn what players did or didn't do at an aftermatch function. I couldn't care less who they hugged, who they shunned, or what they said or didn't say.

Actions out on the field speak louder than words spoken or not spoken at meet up after a game.

          Nit picking at its best.

Competely agree. I couldn't give a flying toss about what he's like as a person as long he kicks goals!!

Agree. I don't think Magic or Bazza are there for their sparkling personalities. Just let them get on with doing what they are paid vast sums of money to do - kick goals and win games. Nick Davis is a natural kick and that's why we've got him.

On the other hand, Nick Davis is articulate and funny. He's arrogant - he tells us often enough. And he's not the hardest working Swan - he tells us that, too. But on the few occasions I've spoken to him he's been pleasant enough and I've never seen him being rude. If you were going to list the Swans on approachability I'd think he is one of the best. I'm at a loss to see why he's been singled out. If you don't like him then hope that he'll soon be out of earshot and roaming the 50 m kicking goals.

I never said that, so please do not infer that Ruda.

Nick Davis couldn't be arsed getting up on stage at all in Perth. Either he was too shy or just couldn't be arsed. Fosdike's comments were spoken so fast that you could tell they were not sincere.

Others got up and were more than eloquent when dealing with supporters.

I see the attitude players hold toward supporters as not necessarily JUST their own personae. Sure our players are not coming up to after-matches dressed in shorts and t-shirts, but surely somebody who saw ND at the after-match in Perth would have wrapped him over the knuckles for not going up on stage. Personally I have huge doubts as to whether this issue was considered important to those in Swans ties at all. Hopefully I'm wrong here, and will gladly stand corrected if that is the case.

Personally because of the way things are post-match in Sydney I think that many of our players are not used to dealing with supporters at all. We only get one or 2 people each time in the Noble Stand, and Troy very much nurses them through it all by interviewing them himself. The club involves the players in some really good Team Swans activitelies. Maybe some training about speaking in front of a crowd might not be such a bad idea.

                  Jules,

I bet they are given some public speaking hints but they have a pretty busy schedule so I bet there's not much. And they aren't employed as PR people. You mention that Fossie spoke too quickly so he wasn't sincere. Several surveys have found that many people fear public speaking more than death. Speaking too fast is a sure sign of nervousness, not insincerity.

And we are unaware of what went on before they arrived in the room in Perth. Davis may have just learned that he wasn't going to be playing against the Hawks and was too upset to want to talk. Just a wild guess. You can see that Adam Goodes hates public speaking but forces himself to do it - as he has to now given his profile. From what I've seen, Nick D loves being in the spotlight. If he didn't want to go on stage there was a reason other than he couldn't be bothered.

Davis had just been spanked by a 4 game rookie in the WC game. If you were going to single out one player as the one that did most to lose us the game, it would probably have been him.

That probably sounds harsh because he was clearly playing while not fit. Had he maybe just got a serve from the coaches on not being honest about how much the injury was hampering him? Who knows, but whether someone had got into him or he was just dirty on himself, it is probably understandable that he was not in a great mood on that particular occasion.

The "facing your public" thing is an integral part of being a professional sportsman, especially one playing such a high profile (and financially rewarding) game as AFL. But that doesn't make it any easier when you've had a really bad day at the office. So long as it isn't an ongoing thing (which it doesn't seem to be) can't he be forgiven for one black mood?

                      Yeah I agree.

I do admit though I find it very annoying when it seems like a player doesn't appreciate that they have 'wonderful' lives thanks to supporters, and that they are rewarded for doing something they love because of people like us loving our club and sport.

I generally don't get too attached to players, obviously you get soft spots, but in the end, players come and go, the club remains!

But somehow I don't think our biggest worry right now is the public persona of our players.

I've spoken to Nick on several occasions (>5 and < 10). Each time he has been pleasant and happy to talk. He has never been rude. Indeed, I can say this about pretty much every Swan. I think that they are all very approachable. Some are better behind a mike than others, but so what!

Perhaps, but it has to worked on by the club.

I think we need to look no further than the NRL to see what happens when the only concern a club has is onfield.

I think Liz's comments are very sensible, if you have played well below par it would be hard to speak publicly. My guess is Roos told him he will be rested until right. BTW in reference to Pie supporters saying bad things about it, the biggest beef my friends had with him was that he stated categorically that he would stay and then five minutes later changed his mind. A friend who knows him recently said that he often tells people different things privately because he tells them what they want to hear. Maybe that is what many players do when placed under pressure, they give the good tidings. And remember I stated after watching the Essendon match that he should be rested until completely right.
