Even though I am from Melbourne, I would be happy to see the Swans play as much as possible, anywahere but in Melbourne, if it would help us win a flag.

Happy to watch the games on TV to win a GF.

Only problem is, the GF is set in stone at the MCG.

So we need to be able to win there.

    So what is better?

Being able to win at the SCG or at the MCG?
To MAKE the GF we should be able to win anywhere and win enough of ALL our games to make it to the GF

But once in that last big game, we need to be able to win on THAT GROUND on that day.

I hate that we play at Colonial.

I love the gound and the closeness of the game when you see them play there, but I'd much rather play every game in Vic at the MCG.

Agree with pretty much all of that CTS.

Telstra Dome is a great ground to watch foty from but isn't the ground we need to win at in finals.

Problem with the Bulldogs game is that it would be played at Telstra, not the MCG.

We are not gauranteed of playing the Dog's in Melbounre now, so the above arguenment is redundant.

All this means is that we will be given 6 games in Melbourne rather than 5, who they are against and where they will be played will be decided by the AFL in October.

                Nope.

Not going to happen. We're not necessarily going to play the Bulldogs next year, and if we do, it'll be in Melbourne. There are other teams they'd prefer to play in Darwin - Freo and West Coast, they can't draw a break even crowd for those games in Melbourne. Will sell-out in Darwin.

You're right, Darwin was purely in gest.

But I guess you mean we're not nec. going to play the Bullies in an away game next year.

You would think that the low drawing Melb. clubs would start to realise that the Swans will draw good crowds in Melb. compared to other interstate teams, with last Sat. being as good a reference as any for that.

Yeah, I meant in an away game.

And I agree, the sooner the lesser Melbourne clubs - including the Roos - realise that they are better off playing Sydney in Melbourne than playing Freo, West Coast and Port Adelaide, the better for everybody.

I'm happy for the efforts our Melbourne-based fans have made to have this match back in Melbourne. I would assume it would be at Optus, which given the capacity of the ground and the smaller Dogs drawing power should be far more pleasant for Swans supporters to attend than last Saturday against the Blues.

To be brutally honest I am very surprised that the club has renegged. I spoke to a club board member at the after match in Perth and he was quite adament that we should keep it. He said it was not only financially benefitial to do so but even said "Why would you give up a home game?"

Still people power seems to be working. I'm very happy for our Melbourne-based fans. Hopefully if this match is given back to Melbourne our Melbourne-based membership department will start getting a little bit of credit. Doubt it though.

Not renegged but not renewed JF. I understood this year was the last of the existing agreement and they may simply chose not to renew.

Of course it will... from me, at least.

But not until it happens. Simple as that.

So we have a situation where Dendol is saying we paid the Bulldogs and are losing money and a Board member is saying it was financially beneficial for the match to stay in Sydney.

hmm I wonder who is more reliable

Yes pretty much spot on, we have been through this before on here ad nausium. Basically, only those in the club privy to exact fugures know exactly how much is "made" on this game. However, given our current and past membership numbers, and the fact that it is/was part of all "Sydney" memberships, it is a no brainer that we would make something from this game.

Caveat; No, i have not analysed the accounts or tried to estimate exact P&L figures or am i suggesting i have !

the point i was trying to make was that its up to the Bulldogs, first and foremost, if this deal is to go through or not. We pay the bulldogs for the "home" game. If they werent so shyt broke, why would they do this? You wont ever see Essendon or Collingwood "sell" a home game to sydney. The Dogs also play a "home" game in Darwin in round 20. Afl.com.au reported that they are now considering two games in Darwin next year, choosing rather to play on neutral territory than in sydney.

It would have been a no-brainer for the Sydney administration to keep continuing this deal if: a) we get an extra home game; b) we actually even made a profit, despite paying up to $250K for this.

So is it the Sydney board saying they dont want to renew, or is it the Bulldogs? Can anyone confirm it?

And please point out in my post where I said we are losing money in this deal. I said we PAID the bulldogs for this game; profit/loss is another thing altogether. I went on the assumption that the Bulldogs wanted out of this deal. And I fully understand the advantages of a home game at the SCG. It would be great if we had enough money to buy every game, but in a system where drafts and salary caps are put in place to try to equalise the competition, I cant say Im all that disappointed we lose this advantage in sydney and that our melbourne supporters get to see OUR team once more every year. If we cant learn to win away we are not going to win the flag anyway, despite where this game may end up being played.

Its just that your post (whinging mexicans) sounded like we should all have been bemoaning the fact that this home game was a entitlement that we were suddenly stripped of. I cant really fault our Melbourne supporters for feeling happy that they now get an extra game because of this. How would we all feel if Freo and West Coast were struggling and Collingwood had the money to "buy" their Perth games to be played in Melbourne?

However, I will apologise for saying you made a "stupid" comment. No excuses for it - just a sincere apology.
