Trade Targets

KPP players who can play FB or CHB.....ability to go forward a bonus. Criteria.

1) Solid talent (does not need to be a superstar...but needs to suggest he could be as good as Schauble or Prestigiacomo)

2) Is young enough to give us 7 good years.

3) Hard at the ball....Strong.

4) Not currently a "required" player.....by my estimation each club would have about 12 senior players in that category and 5 or 6 babies they would not let go of at any reasonable price.

Here are the possibilities.

Interestingly, Essendon looks like fertile ground. They have a string of medium to talented young talls and lack leg speed with experience in the midfield.

The only untouchables are Adam McPhee (187, 82 .......surely that's not right!) and Jobe Watson (191, 91). Aaron Henneman is a dud (Sheedy is only playing him to try and raise his trade value, IMO!). So that leaves.

Mark Bolton (184, 88 - 25)
David Hille (199, 102 - 23)
Ted Richards (191, 89 - 21)
Kepler Bradley (196, 90 - 18)

These are all good players with some experience. They have Lloyd, Lucas, Wellman, Fletcher and Allan as their incumbent 5 (plus McPhee) so these four good players are fighting for bit parts. But then consider that the Bombers have four other young talls who are highly rated (but haven't played)

Sam Hunt (192, 88 - 21)
Courtney Johns (191, 88 -19)
Tristan Cartledge (197, 88 - 19)
Jason Laycock (198, 90 -19)

If any of these are any good then the Bombers might let one of the medium level four go in exchange for a midfielder. They currently have a hack like Alvey on the fringes of the team.

Won't trade Kepler Bradley, was a first rounder and way to good to be traded after only a season with them. But he does barrack for the Swans.

I reckon Sheedy has ripped some teams off badly in trades, but if this were to happen it would take the cake. Hunt has played a handful of AFL games and didn't even make the side last week when the Bombers were struggling for tall defenders. Fosdike is a seasoned 100-game player who adds depth to our midfield. No chance in hell, for our sakes anyway.

On WLF on Monday night, Lloyd was saying as talented as he is Courtney Johns is probably going to retire because of a chronic hip injury. Apparently had the potential to be a real quality player.

Any club that trades with the Bombers does so at their own peril. They have to be the most successful club at "winning" trades ever. And if they are winning...

Hunt seems to be a favourite to be delisted at the end of the year, while one thing Essendon has struggled to do in recent years is develop its own ruck stocks. Both Laycock and Cartledge are very young ruckmen and if they are any good Essendon will need to keep them.

The trading rules involving trading with Essendon are simple.

Rule 1. Don't trade with Essendon.
Rule 2. There is no other rule.

We have been screwed that many times by Essendon, we should never consider trading with them.

For people even to be considering Hunt as a trade option, all I can say is I am glad you are not in charge of Sydney's recruiting!!!!

The only good trade I think we've ever done with Essendon is to get Merv Neagle. Does anyone remember what we gave up for that? Still, it doesn't offset all the bad trades!!

From memory we got Merv via a huge transfer fee that the Doc outlayed. Back in those days there was no draft or anything like that. If you had the cash you could buy a team.

We got Williams, Bolton and Toohey from Geelong the same way.

Edmond from Footscray, Rioli and Barling from Richmond. In all cases it was simply hand over enough money as a transfer fee, and you got your player.

Until Hafey trained em into the ground at the end of 87.

IIRC they lost 5 out of the last 6 games to limp into the 87 finals and then got smashed. The only consolation out of the whole year was seeing The Wiz bag his 100th goal and take an absolute hanger of a mark over Chris Langford.

As for trading with SNDon, Ed Considine & Michael Werner for pick 3 should be enough to convince you not to.

On Grumpy Old Men, Rod Carter and Mark Browning said the exact same thing - by the time finals came around in 87, the players were gone.
