Just one comment on this - I saw Mark Browning say that he did train them hard, but at the same time they didn't have all the personnel they have these days. Therefore they didn't appreciate the impact of the humidity in Sydney and they were spent by the end of the year. This was obviously a successful strategy for Hafey, but didn't suit the Sydney conditions. I can appreciate the difference in training needed between Sydney and Melbourne. Unfortunately they didn't back then.

                Hawthorn

Hawthorn will be rebuilding their side after this season. They will probably be looking to trade away players. I know that some Hawthorn players may be a little undervalued at trade time because they didn't get enough of a go under Schwab. Apart from Thompson, are there any Hawthorn players that may be useful to us?

Problem being however we didn't trade for either of them and picked them up though the draft system.

Getting away from key position players, what about Robert Murphy? Bulldogs fans are unhappy at how Rohde is using him so he may well be unhappy himself.

                          I like Murphy - a useful talent.

What about Vandenburg? Always seems to play okay against the Swans, is fast and has a fair bit of mongrel in him. Only offer a third round draft pick for him.

I would rather us trade for a midfielder or two rather than a tall because our midfield needs the most work done on it and the draft isn't going to solve that problem right away for next season. By the way I'm not saying go after just any old midfield, but ones that can improve the quality of our midfield (A Chad Fletcher maybe).

Down back and up forward we are really only lacking in depth so I would think we should be able to use the draft to fill those needs. In the Ruck we either need to make sure Ball stays on for next season or look at our options and decide whether to trade or draft one.

I say draft one because the likelyhood of a good quality ruckman (ie one better than we already have, because we would have no problem getting an average from elsewhere) coming onto the open market is very slim and what it will cost us in terms of draft picks and/or players would more than likely be too much and would stop us from focusing on the other needs.

I think things are looking like we'll have 5 or 6 draft picks of which I would get at least 2 midfielders, a ruckman, a full forward and a fullback to add to a depth of young players. That would leave a question of what to look for in the trade period and I would think the midfield needs the most help followed by the ruck.
