No question our hardness in the midfield has gone up a couple of cogs, and it needed to. What we need is brilliance in the midfield.
Eg. Mathews disposal when running through centre and out of defence last week, to be kind, was sloppy and unreliable, as was Maxfield (at least 4 kicks to opposition and missed players on leads, got the footy but stuffed up), and I reckon our midfielders are getting possession well into the back half far too often.
Can't recall who said it, but a commentator last week made a very valid point when he said the very best sides have midfields that regularly kick goals. Our don't kick too many. Last Cressa was always making space on the forward line. We lack that this year. we need a genuine attacking midfield.
Whether someone is worth $300,000 is superflous to the argument. I think it is the brilliance factor that Footyhead is alluding to. It is a very valid point.
