No - I've said that I'm happy with Bolton as one of our midfielders, just not as our lead midfielder. He is far more suited to being the no 2 or 3 midfielder, and would do a good job as that.

As for courage, he as plenty of that.

As for great disposal, I don't think so!!

Lets hope Travis Johnson is great mates with Jolly, and want to play with him.

Maybe the bit of good will we have shown the D's in the jolly trade, might pay off with Johnson.

            Imagine that!

Fact - Ball is getting old, his limited Rucking ability has diminished with age and he is retiring at the end of 2005, Doyle is a unco-ordinated donkey and Roosy refuses to play Goodes in the Ruck whether fit or unfit.

As per first paragraph with White's credentials, Jolly never got a look-in this season. Although, Jolly did excell in 2003 when White was injured as indicated by NMWBloods stats for that season in a previous post.

On this occasion Captain, those comments have made you Captain Stupid !!
You are pretty stupid yourself for missing the point of my posts. Jolly coming to Sydney is not a bad thing, it's what we have given up for him that I'm not happy with.

If Jolly is so good and worth a first rounder, why didn't he get more games this year? Melbourne didn't want White rucking himself into the ground, but they didn't really have a choice if they were to remain competitive.

Yet now you are calling for this bloke to save our ruck stocks???? On top of that for a first round pick!!

Doyle is no donkey and with a good pre season he will have a great chance to step up next year. Ball played some excellent footy this year and there is no reason to think his form is dramatically going to disappear next year.

Have you ever seen Jolly play???????????

What is your take on his around the ground play? Contested and overhead marking? What's his tap work like?

Your comments are pretty strong considering you need other opinions to make up your mind.

everything else you said makes sense to me, but why does it matter that we used pick 15 on him.

we needed a ruckman. we got a ruckman. the other option was to draft a young, skinny, untried, potential ruckman with pick 15. I just dont think it matters that much.

I agree we need a ruckman. I just think a first round pick for a back up is pretty steep.

DOYLE IS A DONKEY - the next couple of years will be undoubted proof by his early and un-noticed exit from the AFL.

Pick 15 is a lottery, simple as that. Name how many Pick 15's you know over the years of the draft.....!?

Fact is Pick 15 will not be a garuanteed regular senior player, whereas Jolly will be given that opportunity. Good Ruckman don't grow on trees Captain - and Jolly is a good Ruckman.

Jolly missed 4 games at the start of this season with a facial injury and another 8 games during the season with a knee injury, which would set ANY player back, whereas in 2003 he played 19 games for 23 goals with not much game time - enough said, the boy can play.

If you look at the other trade this year, it seems ok.

Freo gave their first 3 picks for Carr.

Roos gave first and 2nd pick for Thompson who is 27 and may quit at any time.

Matter of fact I have Captain, due to living in Melb and having an AFL membership that lets you go to up to 40 games in the H & A season. When not attending games, I have all the mainstrean channels (amazingly) and Fox Footy to watch 95% of the games every season. I think that covers it.

I went to 7 Melb games in 2003 and 5 this season. In 2003 I witnessed the following qualities in Jolly -

                          1. A Ruckman, when given the chance, that runs straight at the ball in Ruck contests with only eyes for the ball - which is a lot more we could say about other Ruckmen who take their eyes of the ball. Consequently, his tapwork is quite good because of running straight at the Ruck contest.
                          2. A player who floats down to the forward line unattended and kicks accurately for goal.
                          3. Very good at movement around the ground.
                          4. Takes the occasional contested mark, although will improve with confidence through more game time.

That sums up my feelings. The Swans also had to bid high to extricate him from the complicated Ottens deal which would have seen Jolly go to Carlton.

While I appreciate your unparralleled access to viewing games,
I'd wonder how much of an argument stopper that is when there was bugger all of Jolly to see last year. Everyone acknowledges that Jolly was totally starved of game time this year ~ so much so he's changed clubs.

As to Doyle being a Donkey, I can hear some affectatious braying but it's not coming from from him!

And no I can't "Name how many Pick 15's you know over the years of the draft.....!?" because I'm not a stats freak.
