My only memory of Jolly is the couple of good grabs and the two? goals he scored against us at the SCG in 2003. He seemed alright then.

Footy players are like porno stars, you have to pay for the extra inches!
No 6'7" player comes cheap and at least the guy does not seem to come with long term injury baggage.
I am happier trading 15 for Jolly, than trading for two first round picks and then giving them to Tigers, with Ottens suspect back!Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun
I always turn to the sports pages first, which record people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures......Earl WarrenComment

Draft picks are so often pure luck. I only found out the other day that Scarlett was selected by Geelong at around pick 45. How lucky was that? Likewise Fevola was picked up by Carlton around pick number 30.Occupational hazards:

Ball to retire was a strong rumour earlier in the week. Could have some legs, as was rumoured this morning that another recruiting manager was really peeved when they thought they had Jolly yesterday, only to be gazzumped by Sydney at he death. Apparently Barham copped a mouthful. Carlton I believe.
Story was that Ball was on the verge of retiring so Jolly was the best option given Ottens was as good as a Geelong player.Comment

Just picked up this thread this arvo. I was more than disgusted with the comment by Tilt, I was extremely offended. I have been called a number of names for my views on a couple of players (which I am entitled to, and I don't get personal about them, and have accepted humble pie), but that comment was as low as the group of people he was alluding to.
I would like to put it to the moderators that this immature individual, which is being kind to whomever it is, be DELISTED from the site.
No matter what people think of others views and whether people are negative etc. we should not have to put up vial trash like that.Comment

now for something completely irrelevant:
this post has taken 1st place in the most views category since the beginning of time.
and it sits 3rd on the all time most posts category.

We have paid a very high price for an unproven player, not upset about getting a back-up ruckman - but for a 1st rnd pick Jaysus you only get 10 of them given to you every decade
While Simmonds may be a more proven performer than Jolly he is also nearly 3 and a half years older. It is unlikely that Simmonds will get any better, while Jolly is still in that age bracket where it is reasonable to expect improvement, especially as a ruckman. And if he proves to be competent we should get more years of service out of him than we would have from a Simmonds.Comment

Anyway, lighten up people. I think Jolly will be a good thing and that yes 15 is a bit much but 17 would have been greatLast edited by Tooth Fairy; 9 October 2004, 12:31 AM.If u don't believe me, I will knock your bloody teeth out and not pay you a cent.Comment
