If we arent top after round 1...

... there should be a royal commission.

2 years finalist, almost full list, at home playing the biggest rabble in the comp who have replaced a coach with an even worse one, disulisioned captain, and shonky list.

Anything less than a percentage of 200 after round one should raise serious questions.

    Go Swans.

Im kinda worried the swans will take the game too lightly, but i think on paper we should romp in as you say.

But they dont play footy on paper, hard to get a good crowd
Theres not much left to say

We should belt them but saying that we were extremely lucky to beat them last time we played them in Sydney.
They will be desperate to impress the coach as this year will determine many of their futures.

We don't kick big scores, and haven't for most the past two years. Unreasonable to expect this is suddenly going to change.

          1. Opening round 2003.
          2. You don't need a high score for a high percentage.

Now this is called counting our chickens before they hatch. First rounds are always danger games. They is a chance that Hawthorn will be very fired up and their pre season form hasn't been that bad.

We are the shortest odds of any team to win their 1st Round match. The TAB is currently offering:

              Sydney 1.18
              Hawthorn 4.25

                Round 1 odds:

                Sydney Swans - $1.20
                Hawthorn Hawks - $4.25

I always dread playing a side who has a new coach. I would be happy with the win, be it by 1 point (sound familiar?) or 100 points.

                    Spot on.
...and we don't have a great record against Hawthorn, of late.

                      Our last game in Sydney:

                      Sydney: 76
                      Toasters 34
Had it been the first round of home and away, the percentage would be: 223.5%

So you CAN get a good percentage without going over 100 points ...

I would be gutted if we only beat them by 1 point. It would mean we are just another also-ran this season.
If you cant thrash the looming spooner at home, you aint premiership material.

I think we only play really good when we play more challenging teams.

This is very scary, but, I agree with BonBon. We do lift against better sides.

I feel this may be the year that changes. Two disappointing finals exits in a row has made the team very different mentally.

For the record, we only won 3 of our first 8 games last year, and still finished 5th. I dont think you can write off a season until its mathematically impossible to make the eight.
