Cressakel you use the word efficiently very loosely.

One of the points P46, myself and others are making is that his efficiency has dropped off badly. The stas put up by Charlie show that he is getting his hands on the footy still, but he has lost his vision.

He just kicks wildly and rarely finds a man. On Sunday his disposal, to be kind, was appalling. He was on the end of few kicks, on his own on the wing, took a bounce, had plenty of time to pick someone out, but sprayed the footy wildly. On one occasion he picked out a Hawthorn player perfectly, hitting him squarely on the chest.

He is about the worst disposal in the team right now, and for someone who receives the footy on his own adnausium, that is plain not good enough.

The decision on whether he plays on or not must be made on the basis of whether keeping him in the side is stopping the development of players like Willoughby.

At the moment he still shows the way with his hardness at the footy and is a good role model for the youngsters.

But you only have to look at our reserves to see the depth currently at the club and I am sure if he doesn't perform Roos won't be afraid to drop him.

LOL. The three players first in the queue for a spot in the midfield at the moment would be - in no particularly order - Fosdike, Spriggs and Ablett, all players who many on this board have even fewer nice things to say about than they do about Maxfield.

Maxfield didn't have a great game at the weekend. Nor did Nicks. At least half the team were only so-so. But to be calling for heads after one round, one that we won comfortably regardless of the opposition, is a bit bemusing.

All good points. On the flip side, though...

The most important young midfield options are already in the team - the quartet of Schneider, McVeigh, Buchanan and Bevan, who I believe will form the nucleus of our midfield for the next ten years. Especially the first two, as Monty and Bevan will probably spend a bit more time forward and back, respectively. All will play a role, though.

Regardless of what happens with Maxfield and the fringe midfielders, these four MUST be given plenty of time in the middle this year. The future is closer than we think - Bolton, Crouch, Mathews and Kirk will all be 27-30 in just two years. Williams and Maxfield will be gone.

Thats a good point. I still hold hope in seeing Nick Davis being moved into a midfield role when his fitness and confidence is up.

I also tend to think Bucky will make a better midfielder and Schneids the better forward.

but davis is such a good shot for goal, seems almost a shame to move him to the midifield

Couldn't agree more. The absolute poorness of Hawthorn makes it impossible to judge. And it was the first game! Benefit of the doubt to our club captain is probably not unreasonable.

I thought Maxfield was a fraction quiet on the weekend - but lets be fair - his reign as Swans captain hasn't been glorious.

I was quite suprised when he was appointed captain for this season considering his poor from from the previous two. Maxfield will need to rediscover some form if he is to avoid the heckling from the Ladies Stand...

I cant believe that you are putting mawxfield and williams in same the boat.

Willo showed all the signs of being back to the same form of 2001 2002. He has had a great career compared to maxfield and still has the same amount of pace and class that he always had.

i think willo can play for years, i agree he isnt in the same boat as maxfield.
If williams is on a cruise ship maxfield is in a row boat missing an oar

You could argue that with Nicky D's quality delivery out of the middle the other forwards may not need to be quite as good a shot at goal as he is.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
