Nicks plays his best football on a HBF where he can get the ball quickly up the field in conjunction with guys like Leo Barry and the less-flashy Ben Matthews. I'm not saying he should have been de-listed, as I said that last year and will happily say I was very wrong. But if he is not able to play the game that won his All-Australian standing on a HBF, he should not be in the side.
He can be useful in shorts bursts in the forward line. But he is not the answer to our present forward line malaise, as he misses too many easy shots and lacks the body strength to take marks in a pack situation. And lacks the leg speed of someone like Tadgh or Buchanan. Or the skills and goalkicking ability of an O'Laughlin or Davis, who to me looks set for a very productive year.
