How about the alternative viewpoint at the same time? It then covers for fans who might not fit in with others definitions of what real fans are or are not. For example:
"You're not a real Swans fan if you don't understand the rules and complain loudly about the referee"
"You ARE a real Swans fan if you don't understand the rules yet but you are making an effort to learn them"
Any other suggestions?
