Sure we lost but Robert Walls - shut up! Yes it is hard to watch our beloved Bloods when they lose, especially when they lose as badly as they did, but tell me it wasn't fun beating Brissie, or Port or even those scrappy bulldogs last week.
We just need to kick some goals and that is where the short forwards come in. Buchanan is on 3 goals 12 or something for the year and Schneider is not much better. The crumbers have got to hit their targets and then we will be fine.
And P.S. where was Schauble?? He is not injured and he could have been a useful tall against what was a devastating St Kilda forward line.
I love Ryan O'Keefe but please, he has to spend some time in the Reserves to get his confidence back. Let him kick six or seven against West Parliament House Panthers in the pathetic ACTAFL and he might remember how to mark inside 50 or kick a goal.
Worst thing the AFL ever did for the Swans was getting rid of the Reserves Comp.
We had better beat Carlton or it is all over for 2005.

I was so looking forward to Saturday nite.

Then the Tahs lost.

Then I realised Walls would be commentating.

Then I was forced to watch that @@@@e - appalling skills, brainless game plan and blatantly one-sided umpiring - all to the soundtrack of Walls & Quartermain.

Sunday couldnt come fast enuff.

I didn't disagree with much that Walls had to day after the game - I just wish he didn't look like he was enjoying himslef so much while he was saying it.

Ditto with Paul Bevan, his confidence is getting shot to pieces by Roosy playing him everywhere and for limited game time, whereby he needs to spend quality game time in the ressies, accumulate 35 possies and 5 goals a la McVeigh and Schneider.

He was on the Swans bandwagon in 2003, but decided he hated the Swans in 2004 and has really stepped it up further in 2005.

Still, you hardly blame the commentators being forced to watch that crap. Imagine how much they complain when they realise they have another Swans game to go to. How much would you prefer to go to say the Bombers v. Bulldogs were you can see 38 goals kicked!

The problem with Walls is that he gets ideas in his head (from reading the papers - not watching the games) and then won't let it go - to the point where he will actually ignore what is going in the match and continue whining.

A few of examples on Saturday. With a 15 - 5 free kick count against us we were only a couple of goals behind in the third quarter. The other two commentators commented on it regularly - he ignored it.

At one stage the camera panned back to show no-one in St Kilda's forward 50 - no comment from Walls as only Sydney floods.

When he was raving about our gameplan not creating enough goals to win a flag it was pointed out that we had scored more than Port - the team that won last years flag. Obviously they haven't changed their gameplan. Walls response? Silence.

His basic complaint was right but that doesn't mean that he's not also wrong (and annoying) a lot of the time.

Walls is one of the most useless "special comments" men. Sean, you are dead right with him getting a certain idea and sticking with it. He's always done that - very difficult to shift him away from that or for him to add something new.

Port's scoring last year v this year are very different kettles of fish. Port scoring as little as they do this year have them in the same boat as us - they won't win enough games scoring so few points. Last year in the H&A season, Port were the 3rd highest scoring team and scored 110 points per game on average, and scored only 34 points fewer than Brisbane who were the highest scoring team. Sydney ranked 11th last year and averaged 88 points per game.

This year, both Sydney and Port are scoring less than 80 points per game on average.

Call me old fashioned, but a comentators role is to call a game, and the only people he is answerable to is his TV network which is looking to maximise ratings.

Therefore Quarterbrain and Walls are out of line by constant harping on about Sydney's style. It detracts from my enjoyment of watching the footy on TV by listening to those two highlight the negative aspects non-stop. Its bad enough watching it.

Let them analyise the swans game plan on footy shows and in print, but when I'm watching the game, just call the game.

I can only assume that 10's relentless attack on the swans style is linked to the negotiation of the next TV rights. You only need to contrast 9's call of the swans games where they love the tough struggle, where 9 arent worried about ratings for AFL in sydney.

Yes, this year and last year are very different for Port but the criticism was of the gameplan whilst Port have shown that a gameplan is only as good as your players. Port are using the same gameplan as last year but it's not working.

That shows that Walls' constant bagging of our gameplan is perhaps not comepletely justified - if we were playing well we would be scoring a lot more points. It was almost like he thought that only getting the ball inside 50 29 times was intentional.

BTW, I watched the Crows and Carlton yesterday and the Crows gameplan is every bit as boring as ours but they are playing with a bit of confidence. Their flooding of both the defence and midfield makes us look like amateurs but once the get the ball they play a carefree style. That makes it more exciting - although that game was a little bit boring.
