    Round 20 Negatives

While someone beat me to the positives thread, we still need a negatives thread to keep things in perspective just a little bit.

The biggest negative for me was the embarassing display by the Lions after half time, simply flooding the entire time. How is that meant to help get them back into the game? You can't kick goals like that, certainly not multiple goals in a row. I hope to never again hear that the Swans are the worst flooders in the league.

    We had little opposition.
Probably less even than the Geelong game.

What about our decision making from free kicks? A few times players would be awarded a free kick and take the first option, moving the ball thirty metres to the boundary line for a throw in...

Ben Mathews is in the team.

When some of your key players are missing, sometimes there is not a lot else to do. Remember they were missing Brown, Black, and Leppitsch, and Akermanis is not fully fit. Imagine what we'd do without Hall, Kirk and Barry.

Lappin's injury. Hopefully he gets back.

The Mexican Wave whilst waiting for the stretcher to clear the ground. A little bit of respect wouldn't go astray - very embarassing.

Barry Hall finishing the game on the bench.

The Coleman Medal within reach and he's benched!!

Good move by Roosy - the last thing we want to see is Bazz hobbling off the ground with an injury so close to September - although it would be good to see him win the Coleman!

Okay this is a negative that has nothing to do with the game *g*

The dodgy bus driver I had to endure on the way home - last night from the Bledisloe Match it took me 45 mins to get home - the idiot today did the tour of the freaking city taking 1 hr 45 mins to get home - fun, fun, fun.

For me even though we won by the massive margin we did, we again finished on the wrong side of the Free Kick count.

I agree seeing Lappin go down, regardless what team you follow, you hate seeing a quality player like that getting injured.

Get over it! Brisbane do not deserve any respect. Between all their theatrics in trying to milk free kicks and hitting people when their back is turned. Not to mention their extremly negative football. Brisbane can get stuffed! (Feel free to put in any colourful adjectives you like)

From that game Brisbane have dropped below Collingwood in my most hated teams list and are now just above Essendon.

I had to find something to add to the thread. I think it was such a complete performance.

A truly appalling period from about the 7 min mark to the 20 min mark of the 2nd quarter, when Brisbane clearly had no idea what to do with the ball and we had lost interest in taking it back off them. Looked a bit like SANFL reserves for a while.

But even balanced against that negative is the fact that we buckled down and really put the boot into them in the 2nd half, when it would've been easy to switch off and win by 5 or 6 goals. In particular, to kick 5 goals to 1 in the last quarter, against an uber-flood, when your best 2 forwards are spending half of the quarter on the bench, is testament to the fact that they just kept at it all day.

Clutching at straws here but anyway:

                        - Davis's injury. Hopefully he's okay.
                        - A couple passages of play where we chipped back and forth and turned the ball over.
                        - Leo dropped THAT mark after doing all the hard work. We could have had goal and mark of the week.

You've got to be kidding. Nigel Lappin is a true elder statesman of the game, who has quite possibly played his last game of football today. He deserved a hell of a lot of respect.

Fumble, fumble, fumble. How hard was it to pick the ball cleanly off the ground? How many uncontested marks were dropped?

To be fair to them, the major fumbles started after it became obvious that the opposition hadn't bothered to turn up for the afternoon and I suspect our boys had their brains turned off.

I hate games like that. Would much rather we win by 20 pts against a team at least having a dip (like Essendon) than against today's bunch of pretenders. Yes, they had key players out and it would always have been tough for them to win. But they could have at least tried to pretend it was a contest.

                              Absolutely.

I was embarrassed by the Mexican Wave while he was been treated on the ground. The only slight defence I can offer is that the game had been so dull for an hour or so leading up to that point that the crowd was pretty restless. I suspect half of the 'wavers' didn't even appreciate what was happening out on the ground during that period. Scant excuse, I know, but I'm clutching at straws.

At least there was a decent round of applause for Lappin when he was taken off - and there was too much for it just to be Lions fans.
