Presume this is the first step in a TAC Cup like regional 18's structure.

Anyhow, must go, I need to get back to the phone in case I miss the call from the Giants offering to assist my club as well....

Sydney TAC Cup for all the elite players we have what a great idea lets follow the Victorian model can see a lot of thought process has gone on here.

Quick comparison though in Sydney we have 24 senior clubs accross all divisons.

Melbourne metro region
EFL approx 43 clubs
EDFL aprrox 24 clubs
NFL aprrox 24 clubs
SFL approx 28 clubs
VAFA aprrox 72 clubs
WFL approx 20 clubs

Probably should add 14 clubs in the VFL which takes the tally to approx 225 clubs

So just in the Melbourne metro region we have more than 9 times the amount of clubs as the Sydney Metro region.

I can really see the need for a region based elite under 18's competition to develop the competition.

Perhaps if the AFL actually did some work that involved forstering junior clubs so that we have thriving junior competitions all over sydney I could see the need.

Do the AFL realise 60 years ago in our region alone there were juniors Clubs at Hammondville, Regents Park, Cabramatta, Fairfield, Bankstown, Mt Pritchard, Villawood, Green Valley and Holsworthy/Warrick Farm and we now have Liverpool, Bankstown and SW Tigers? Thats 1/3 off the junior clubs that existed 60 years ago. Obviously whatever they are doing is working.

Just to clarify a few things here for all:

HISTORY

1- Gary B verbally told Camden that after the demise of Town's 18's last year if Camden could get 30 numbers by season end Camden could have an 18's in 2013.
2- Camden has 31 expressions of interest for 18's to play in 2013. Expressions of interest at this stage which was all that was required.
3- Gary B "left" and the original conversation dismissed as "that never happened."
4- Meanwhile Camden ran BBQ's during and after season end, promoted AFL in the area and had a handful of men dedicate a lot of time to get an 18's team in Camden for 2013.
5- Camden have a major sponsor willing to cover ALL costs for the 18's side for 2013. This includes rego, uniform etc..... Not one 18's or parent would have to pay a cent.
6- This major sponsor and some players have already said they are not interested in a JV.
7- Approximately 10 player parents have written to the Sydney AFL voicing their concerns with no reply.
8- More than 75% of the players live in the Harington Park region and no where near the slightly burnt Monarch.

NOW

1- Sydney AFL want a TAC cup style comp in 2014 which will include many more merges.
2- There is a meeting at Harington Grove at 6pm on Friday the 18th! Harley and Lawson presenting to the parents and players. All welcome, I am going to see what it means for my club next year.
3- The details I am aware of include. Players now must pay rego, training split, games split, committee split, three players have been singled out to play PL for Town and are not in the mix
4- GWS input at this stage is a set of jerseys (not shorts and socks this has to be clarified), the use of their facilities (which is logistically crazy for parents) and Blacktown Magics Coach making decisions for this new JV?????

What I can say is GWS and SAFL will want this team to look successful so if its struggling my guess is some back up will be close by.

I think some of the above comments are easily what can be perceived from outside but I think you'll find Camden did a lot of hard work and have been denied the opportunity and it wouldn't matter what had been done as we all now have this Sydney AFL review booklet that is going to change things for everyone.

I can not speak for Town as i have no source there but I believe that their committee may feel similar to that of the above. My only question to Town is why did they have to play up so many 18's in PL last year that they had to fold the 18's?

Once again I encourage all that have posted above to get to this meeting on Friday to see what is going on and have your say.

And when i say regular they played between 5-12 games in total due to rep involvement/giants games etc so they wouldnt have been playing 18's anyway. Also the coach was offered extra players from the local 16's to top up so he would have a side and refused after spitting the dummy that he wouldnt have all the GUNS.

At the end of the day it is what it is now and hopefully both clubs work together to make it a success.

On the Thursday prior to round one there were 11 players in Campbelltown under 18's squad in total of which 7 were selected in seniors - The Campbelltown Senior coach refused to allow them to play up

Jason the 16's coach at Camden was happy to provide top ups but they were playing at Hawkesbury so impossible situation for provide enough top up numbers for that week.

Bevo asked would this be a regular thing and was told to expect 7 players playing seniors every week therefore leaving only four of the eleven available for 18's.

Had he had his squad of 11 he felt he could have made the situation work with top ups each week but 4 left him no choice.

As I said I was asked to relay that.

NUTTSY, riddle me this: If Jason had offered his 16s and only 4 GUNS played up regularly, why did you forfeit the entire season after round one????

ANSWER: Because there was no chance of fielding an 18s side.

Surely the only change after the dummy spit was the coach had gone. With all the dedicated, hard working people around the club at the time, to have somone put their hand up to be a match day coach shouldn't of been a problem. Especially if it meant the difference between remaining in Prem Div 18s or being disgraced by forfeiting the season and now accepting hand outs from GWS. No wonder you are happy or should I say relieved in your last comment. You would've signed the dotted line back in August in favour of the joint venture when it was first rumoured, knowing Ctwn didn't have future without it.

What was the 16s coach going to give you 10 - 14 U16s players to play Premier Div 18s every week. Please. You are a fool.

And what junior club were the u/16's to come from? Camden. And where are the u/18's young guns playing prems coming from? Camden. (re: van leunen, green and etto brothers) And where are the u/18's coaches for 2012 and 2013 coming from? Camden. And where is the strongest junior club in the Macarthur area from? Camden. (auskick to u16's every grade) Where is the 2nd biggest growth area re: population in the state of NSW? Camden. (just take a drive along Camden Valley Way and look at the estates going up, as well as Oran Park) Who did CTN's div 3 side coach contact when he needed players so they wouldnt forfeit? Camden. (SAFL refused anyways). Until SAFL realise that Monarch Oval is not the centre of Football in the Macarthur region anymore the better. They are in the middle of nowhere and no amount of money you throw at them will entice players to go and play or stay any longer than 1 year at that place. Just take a look at how many coaches and interstate players have been through the place in the last 5 to 8 years and are still their? zero. You cannot buy a culture you create it from the bottom up, Juniors, parents,coaches from the local community not by throwing dollars at people.

Looks like that will soon be Liverpool and SW Tigers from what I'm hearing ... seems that the AFL have back flipped again and decided that since they cant develop any junior teams, they are forcing Bankstown into GWS (again), which will be the death knell for that club. Round of applause please!

I think you're right M-O-P...no group likes being forced into a merger by Big Brother.
But the AFL is in a hurry and can't afford to tread softly to avoid stepping on toes.

My tip is that there will be tears, that Campbelltown and Camden will lose out big time, but that there will eventually be a strong junior presence down in your part of Sydney.
I also feel for poor old Penrith who got sweet-talked into thinking they would still be loved on the morning after.

If I were a mum or dad in the south-west, I'd be jumping on the BlacktownMagicMacarthurGiants bandwagon because that's where the smart money will be going, and the others will be left behind.

Seems this is on the money - having been shafted and lied to by the AFL since they dared to stand up to them over re-zoning, they have run out of volunteers who are prepared to trust or work with anyone there! ... but really that has always been the AFL's MO when dealing with recalcitrants ... just wear them down till they go away, then start afresh!

Incorrect, Incorrect and Incorrect. Maybe you should speak to someone at the club who can show you minutes from the Commitee Meetings which show a complete different story.

As a past member of a Junior club on the committee occasionally the feeling I had was that the AFL didnot like the older clubs as most had constitutions that had the actual power for decision making in the hands of the members not as it is now with the newer clubs where in the end the members mean squat the AFL can and does at times have the final say. Hence the more older clubs that vanish the more control over everything they have. That was always my gut feeling, even to the point of relocating clubs changing their name them 2 years later putting a new club in where they came from calling them the old name and playing them in the old colours, then telling the original club they werent allowed to register new players from their tradtional recruiting grounds. It is all about control. With Bankstown it is a real pity if they do go down as in all my time in Juniors they were always well supported by the Sports Club and have had some great people working on the commitee, but as we all knopw these days at times junior clubs are treated by some as a weekly baby sitting service. This means the pool of people willing to put there hands up to do the work is cut dramatically. Anyway who in their right mind would put themselves in a position where you are continually trying to please all members and end up pleasing none a very thankless task. All junior clubs should be ensuring that all age groups are represented on their boards so that there is always some continuaty in the management, I have seen 2 maybe 3 clubs that have gone out backwards due to this.
