So, where to from here?

I do wonder what the vibe would be like around Balmain recently (player wise) now that they now they'll be playing Div 1 and 3. I know they've lost the Cass (SHE) and Johnston boys (Back to Jets)from last year, although apart from Josh Cass they didn't play a great deal of Seniors anyway. How many are still around (of Premier calibre) and keen to play on?

I think it all will depend on how the off-field stuff is resolved, though given the apparent lack of progress (i.e. still awaiting an AGM) they are leaving their run very late.

Unless there is a complete overhaul I suspect the club will fall off the map and the region will fall into Sydney Uni's catchment zone (not a dig at them, just saying they are probably the closest club and are already doing some work with their juniors).

I can't see how Balmain can survive playing out of Marrickville, it defies logic. If it is true as reported that Balmain were forced out due because they could not afford the rent then that is either (a) a blatant sellout by their council or (b) an indictment on Balmain's financial management. Given they have played there for so long I would have thought they would have had the right to stay there so I suspect it is (a).

I would think it would be very hard for Balmain to find a suitable ground within their community, unless this can be secured for season 2015 as part of their re-invention then I think their prognosis is very poor

Just had a quick squizz at the NEAFL draw. All matches and venues are up, except for Sydney Uni home games, with the exception of the Uni V Queanbeyan match to be played at Uni #1, the rest of the home games are "TBA"

They still negotiating with Drummoyne Council? Or possibly looking at Gwawley?

Also saw that there are just 4 NEAFL games scheduled for BISP. Might be turning into a white elephant. Bet Blacktown Council are impressed.

Gwawley, I can only assume that it has had some work done to it in recent years as it was without doubt the worst ground in Sydney - actually St Ives Showground after the St Ives Show was not great either, nothing like being ridden into the ground and landing on a fresh cowpat....

I know Sydney Uni have no fans, and to be fair most clubs in Sydney only have friends and family as supporters watching, but surely they are not going to be playing their home games in the Shire? Surely their players won't fancy playing down there. Perhaps, having conquered the inner west this is the next part of their master plan to conquer the Sydney market (guffaw guffaw). Seriously, if the Students can't play at #1 then surely they should be based at BISP, it was a purpose built AFL venue and if we can't use it for NEAFL then what is it there for?

Schmidt running around for Balmain was quite disturbing, seeing a former elite access carrying so much baggage. He still managed to get his hands on the pill but he was so fat that he seemed to be gasping for air after every run. I can only assume he has had a walk into the room full of mirrors because if he is in that state he will not get a touch at NEAFL level. Then again maybe he is there for his BBQ'ing expertise.....

The Academy will be the next to be relocated for 'holistic purposes'. Sydney footy may as well move finals to Skoda.

Which is a bit ironical, because, on his website there is a testimonial from someone who pumps up his tyres by saying he is "dedicated to fitness".

It's a weird and wonderful world in the land of Sydney Football. Wasn't he working as a real estate agent in Balmain? Should be like shelling peas earning a dollar in that market.....

Good luck to him at the SHEagles anyway, I always thought he was OK at the Swans, he'd go OK in the NEAFL if he could lose the undergut....

I doubt it. Apart from the ground being shaped like a hotdog, it is a horrible surface. Southern Power is blessed to have gotten off it after so many years and now call Waratah Oval home.

No more Gwawley at all? I remember playing a carnival at Waratah in about 95ish, wasn't very big, any idea on dimensions me ol china plate?
