Not a bad effort in the end - 5 goal loss.

So, where are we next week?

NM to be same as last year - honest toilers. Yeah, they have a few out but the same olds are their best players.

Was that the quickest ever end of coverage by nine?

Not a bad performance considering what we had on the field.

Brabazon looks like he has the goods, Laidlaw was quieter in the 2nd half but showed enough.

Adam Prior was a bit of a surprise, 16 touches with 3 marks.
Not a bad first effort at all.

Jack improved as the game went on.

All in all I think we have something with these kids. Its a shame we didnt get to see more of Schmitt, Willoughby and Matty Davis

Brabazon is the most interesting prospect for me. Looked very impressive. Logic says that there's just too many players ahead of him to get a game this year, but he would hold his own if he was called up. Laidlaw had a quiet second half but Thornton improved, especially in the third quarter.

Disappointing to see that Malceski didn't really get going. Moore upstaged him, although he was patchy. Doyle and LRT have obviously spent plenty of time practising their marking. Now it's time they learned to kick, and how to make a decision in less than three hours. Richards was quiet all day but I imagine he'll still play in round one. Chambers didn't set the world on fire but is probably ahead of Doyle for a spot.

Grundy showed that he's ready for a call-up when it comes, and Vogels deserves to play against the Bombers. He could force Dempster out of the side.

Pleased with the result. Could have been a lot worse than five goals.

Nice show from the young bloods.

Donkey improved in the 2nd half but man he was still ordinary.

NOG looked very slow out on the field. Fairly ordinary.

Vogels again impresses me at FB.

SuperTed presented well just didn't have much support up forward apart from ROK.

ROK will improve again this year. Looks so strong.

LRT was very dissapointing. Well beaten by Petrie and turned alot of ball over with his kicking.

              Rookies:

Brabazon - Great 3rd quarter. Isn't he the youngest of our 3 picks? Knows how to find the footy.

Laidlaw - Quick and has a booming kick.

Jack - Despite that poor clanger looks tough as nails.

Prior - 17 disposals and has great hands. Terrible shot at goal though.

Grundy - My pick on making his debut first out of all the youngsters. Can take a grab.

Moorey - you just gotta love the little guy. Should expect to see more of him in the seniors and possibly get a rising star nomination.

Good summation Jeffers. I think Moore is the most likely to debut though. He is like Cressa - great at the inside handball and skilful at the same time.

I think Vogels is ahead of Richards to play in round 1 - few weeks to go yet though.

Is Brabazon the youngest? According the www.aflithink.com.au he is 20! Gotta be wrong - I thought he was 17. IF he is 17-18 he will make it - so poised for a young bloke.

For the first time I'm starting to understand the hype about Moore. Grundy has done a few good things. Roberts-Thomson is the same - he can mark the ball but doesn't really know what to do with it. Doyle is slow, but Chambers has barely featured so it's hard to pick which one will play in round one. Malceski hasn't had a lot of the footy. Would like to see Richards on a wing in the second half. Dempster looks like he'll be hard to leave out of the round one team, and I've liked the look of Vogels in defence.
Why on earth would you even question Dempster playing round 1.

He played all finals and well, to establish himself. He is a walk up start as an integral part of the backline.

Rubbish. He was one of the last three or four selected throughout all of those finals. Bevan probably won't play round one, and Ball is retired... but that still means there's only two spots if the other 20 premiership players all play. With Vogels, Richards, Malceski, Chambers, Doyle and Moore all in strong contention.

Dempster would be ahead of most of them, but he's no certainty.

Margin was quite respectable even though they missed a few shots.

                        - As mentioned in the broadcast, Moore has the footy brain. Very noticeable in the reserves last year and could really progress this season. Very nice snap out of the pack for his goal

                        - Doyle took some nice marks and hopefully he'll keep on improving.

                        - Richards performed reasonably well and will be a very useful utility for us in the Saddington mould.

                        - I thought some of the seniors today were as bad as the rookies in turning over the ball.

                        - I really like Jack, his determination and effort really impressed me despite some costly turnovers. Perhaps he could be a useful small defender.

I have a different view on some the blokes that went around today.

Harsh on Ablett - I thought he presented well and had picked up a bit of pace, even though he got caught trying to do a bit much. What player doesn't get caught in traffic.
Buchanan - just out for the run but looks set for another very good year.
                            Brabazon - looks good.
Chambers - I thought he found his feet a bit in the 2nd half but is behind Doyle.
Dempster - how anyone question his position in the 1's is beyond my comprehension.
garruba - did a few good things late, could be a chance down the track.
Grundy - didn't work hard enough on 2nd efforts.
Jack - could be very good. Has very good skills and evasive ability, not frightened to back himself. Just needs to learn to hit the target better.
                            Laidlaw - genuine prospect
Malceski - I hope the coaches get stuck into him because I thought he was soft and a couple of times let teammates do the hard stuff. believe he took short steps on one occasion.
                            Mathews - pretty good
Moore - pretty good, but does he have the stamina.
Richards - I thought he was pretty good, particularly early. Trapped the ball, handballed off to Brabazon for a goal. Good skills and will be a real asset up forward.
LRT - Gee I thought he had a lot of the footy and beat Petrie pointless when the ball hit the ground. So he sprayed a few kicks, big deal.
                            Spriggs - just cant kick.
Vogels - I disagree with others, I thought he was slow to react and didnt read the play coming towards him. Not a backman for mine.
Doyle - his 2nd half was very good for a bloke who has played little footy. Those who have labelled him donkey will eat their words if he stays injury free. Got lots of taps and picked the pace and dropped back well into the square.

Pluses for the season were Doyle and Richards. Doyle is clearly there with Jolly and Richards gives us another very good option up front.

Dumb reply Charlie, none of those you named are backmen. Surely you couldn't have Vogels in front of him in defence.
