Were you watching replays of last year? I thought McVeigh was good did plenty when he got it, even went the hard ball a few times. Good game by the young fella.

BTW Malceski is really getting into the "Bloods" thing isn't he, cut to the head, get bandaged up and put on the Kirk/J. Bolton head gear.

I have no stats to back it up, but just watching my sense was that McVeigh played probably his best game, which isn't saying a lot, but encouraging. It seemed someone had told him to have a real go...or else?
Chambers at least a presence...not quite ready to say sorry yet...but again, encouraging.
        Richards...lightweight...not much heart...no decision maker.
Definitely a better day...but come on Captain Kirk you can do a bit better. Jude all guts & determination...kicking still a 50/50 hope.

Agree with that assessment - he has stepped it up a little over the past couple of weeks. Still a way to go but the signs are good.

As for the others, O'Keefe I suspect enjoyed playing on a longer ground where he could work into more space which in turn gave MOL more room to weave his magic up forward - pity about his goalkicking. Williams made a huge difference early on, especially in the centre, although overall our clearance work was far better than it has been. Kirk was more effective than he has been by playing a tagging role while we could all see how much Kennelly changes the dynamic of our lineup.

A much much better effort overall, with a more even performance across the four quarters as well. Ball handling is finally on the improve as well (lots more one touch control rather than fumbles). Still plenty of room to continue improving, but if they can build on last night, things are looking far better than 3 weeks ago.

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Did Chambers seem to be given more game time than normal last night? Was Jolly injured or playing poorly (I didn't notice him playing particuarly poorly, he was very light on for stats I notice; but I guess that is a game time thing) or was Roosy just giving Chambers a run against his old team?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Was thinking the same. Jolly spent a fair bit of time running past us on the NW pocket. Chambers started the final term I think. Who has the numbers.

Roos said after the game that Jolly hasn't been able to train more than 20 mins a week with the team because of his knee (and I guess elbow too) so it would make sense why he was playing out of position. I thought Chambers played well against his old club, just needs more game time to boost his confidence, but is starting to show the potential as to why we got him in the first place.

Proves again LRT doesn't have the right footy mindset. As some people mentioned here before that he doesn't read the game properly. I'm afraid he'll still be a loughing stock of Melbourne media for some time to come.

I thought the best players were J Bolton, Schneider, MOL, Kennelly, Hall, Williams.

Goodes was very handy in the second quarter, although it did help that Geelong actually kicked it straight to him a couple of times. But did virtually (one nice goal) nothing in the second half.

ROK was very good in the first half but disappeared in the second.

McVeigh really didn't seem to do very much. I think expectations have been lowered on what to expect from him.

We were on top for most of the game and the signs are promising, but I wouldn't quite say we're 'back' just yet.

At the risk of turning this into another LRT thread I disagree. He is generally good at reading the game, which is why he pops up taking marks as he did in the GF. He is still learning and will do better, but if he can consistently play at last night's level he will at the very least hold down his spot. As someone said earlier I would like to see him have more time on Mooney; LRT would be beaten at times because Mooney is a very good player, but it's the best way for him to stay on his learning curve, trying to stop quality opposition.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think you will find and hard for me to tell as only watching on TV at the moment, but a few shotson the box last night showed the cats flooding back into the corridor forcing the guys to lead o0utwards. Teams know how potent how forwards are when we are on top. so they are making it as difficult as they can.
That said we did miss some easy kicks tonight.

He was @@@@ing hopeless last night. That's why he spent most of the fourth quarter on the bench. He is a (tall) passenger.
