Is it actually POSSIBLE for the AFL to change the result?
If the siren sounds in Tasmania, and the umpires don't hear it, does it make a sound?

They won't. It would be an admission that the umpires were wrong, and we know the AFL's stand on that issue.

An interesting one, as others have said I don't think there is anything officially in the rules that says that they can.

What the hell were the timekeepers thinking, keep blowing the thing until the bloody umps hear it for @@@@s sake.

Thing is I reckon one of the umps heard it, hence the second reaction of the Freo players but why the kick was allowed to be re-taken.......... what a @@@@ up!!!!

Let's hope some common sense pre-vails

Agree. However the laws of the game do state the game ends when the umpire signals that he has heard the siren so the AFL may not be able do the right thing.

I thought that's what they normally do anyway. I know in the NRL the siren keeps going until acknowledged by the referee and was under the impression the same thing happened in the AFL.....or maybe not

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

And i think the umps even had a chance at the end there to set things right. After the goal umps cancelled the 1st post-siren behind, could they have called the game over before the 2nd post-siren shot was taken?

I think the first score was annulled because the player that received the free was given the option to let the score stand or take another kick. Naturally he chose to take another kick. And missed again.

I am just glad that Baker missed the second time.
Cornflakes all but admitted they shouldn't have won. I actually thought he would have accepted a loss. He thought the Aints played like crap and didn't deserve a win.

If it happened to the Swans I would want a protest rally outside the AFL HQ. We want 2 premiership points...when do we want them....NOW

                          LOL hahaha.

Decided on Monday the 4th of September, giving Freo more 2 points, putting them into the final 8 on percentage, pushing the Saints into 9th.

                          THAT would be justice!

                            What made the game stop?

If the umpires didn't hear the siren why did the game stop after Baker's kick?

Did the timekeepers just blow the siren intermittently after the first time?

No court case, but on rare occasions the result of matches have been appealed. Occasionally these appeals even succeed.

In 1909, St Kilda beat Geelong at Corio Oval by 1 point. In the match St Kilda played a suspended player. Geelong appealed and St Kilda forfeited the premiership points.

This decision ultimately gave St Kilda the 1909 wooden spoon.
