    Coaching & Support Staff List

I thought it might be helpful to keep track of coaching and support staff movements in a separate thread.

This is my best knowledge of current structure and known or rumoured changes:

    John Longmire — head coach
Dean Cox — game strategy and the ruck department
Jarrad McVeigh — forward line (rumoured to be moving to VFL coach)
    Ben Mathews — backline
Mark McVeigh — assistant coach (responsibilities?)

Damian Truslove — VFL coach (rumoured to be leaving with Jarrad McVeigh to replace)

Rob Inness — fitness & conditioning (moving to Carlton leaving a critical vacancy).

Dr Sharron Flahive — Club Doctor (?)

Suzie Rhydderch — Club Psychologist (?)

Emma Murray. — High Performance Mindfulness (h’mmm)

Any corrections, improvements or more information would be welcome.

I am disappointed re losing Inness. Our players seemed to be the fittest I have seen this year. (Well until last match ….).

Don't think Truslove will be much of a loss if he does leave as planned. I think the reserves the last couple of years in general have been awful.

Inness is a big loss. Don't think Saturday was a fitness issue (injuries aside of course), despite the apparent lack of pressure. More a mental conditioning issue.

Yeah, that was just gallows humour on my part, pretending the half-hearted jogging aimlessly might have been a fitness deficit ….

Pretty sure Spike McVeigh was backline coach and Matthews the mids with Cox stoppages. Be interesting to see who takes over from forwards coach. Big shoes to fill after team being league’s most prolific scorers.

            Hard to find up-to-date info.

            I also left out:

Brett Kirk Head of Player Development and Wellbeing? (if that title is correct, he must be a busy man at the moment ….)

Leon Cameron Executive General Manager, Football (admin role but obviously has recent coaching experience)

And now trade shenanigans have started, we can add Chris Keane as Sydney Swans list manager. Keane has done an ‘interview ’ with Cal Twomey today. Which tells us nothing really …. Lol.

One vacancy confirmed filled: Shane Lehane has been appointed as the club’s Head of Athletic Performance to take over the role vacated by Rob Inness. Lehane has been at the Sydney Swans for the past four seasons working with Inness, so I assume that bodes well for a continuation of the fitness standards that were achieved for the last season.

Sounds like a logical move Meg- our lads were certainly fit and we enjoyed a relatively low injury season. We had Paps and JMac out towards the point end but otherwise our record was very good. Mills and Parks were unfortunate and not fitness related.

I noticed some teams played very physical and aggressive towards us and we could not take it. We need training that prepare for guys to take hard bumps. Yeah fitness is a big issue I reckon we need a big offseason to improve our fitness for 4 quarters in my opinion and improve our physicality

The Swans were the best fourth quarter team in the league.

                        Announced today:

Jarrad McVeigh to take over as Head Coach of the Sydney Swans VFL team, replacing Damian Truslove who is returning to Victoria.

Harmit Singh as the Talent and Coaching Director of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. Singh spent the past two years at Collingwood and before that at Essendon.

Adam Kennedy as an AFL Development Coach, principally mentoring 1st–3rd-year players. Kennedy recently retired as a player after 153 games for GWS.

It'll be interesting to see how Jarrad goes. The VFL side often seemed a bit uncoordinated during Truslove's tenure, but there could have been extenuating circumstances, mainly having a different side run out nearly every week, due to injuries and trialling new players.
So it seems to be a challenge for Jarrad, but I've generally found him quite impressive when being interviewed, so I suspect he might be up to it. And who knows, a successful season or two, might have him being talked about as a future AFL coach.

Charlie Gardiner off to Collingwood as their head off Football replacing Grahame Wright. Promotion for him & gets to stay in Melbourne. Will he be replaced?

The Sydney Swans congratulate Charlie Gardiner on his appointment as the new Head of Football at the Collingwood Football Club.

love that Mcveigh has taken over the VFL side coaching. Quality coach of young players. The timing is right for Dean Cox. Really hated the fact that Longmire refused to talk about GF day. At least Cox was prepared to talk to the Swans supporters about that horrible day.
