Always thought he would make a really good coach. But his record at VFL level is poor even though we had plenty of injuries. But with this overseas offer may be his mind was not fully on the job of coaching.

hopefully the replacement is not Laidler an ex now leaving GWS. Maybe a good postion for Ramps and a playing one at that.

In fairness, his record at VFL level was largely due to the huge injury list that seriously affected the reserves team. For much of the season he did not have any senior experience players relying on top ups from the Sydney AFL comps which are well short of classy players when compared to the Victorian VFL clubs

              Simon Goodwin appointed

Was confident that would be the case, very hard to ignore a Premiership coach living in Sydney

Very good get I reckon, brings experience as a winner both as player and coach, along with the experience of facing adversity and disappointment.

GWS were keen so he's chosen us - nice

Accumulating former head coaches at the club, Horse, Cameron, Goodwin

I'll reserve my opinion on the Goodwin selection. Sure he's a premiership coach but I've never warmed to the guy, especially in light of the Bartlett saga, post rumours of Goodwin's own misbehaviour.

While I am always confident in the decisions our club makes on these matters, time will reveal what he brings to our club I suppose.

I did like what he said about the Swans though "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining Sydney as I've always admired how the Swans work hard and take care of their people".

That last bit is surely a dig at his former club.

I thought there were two ‘issues’ re Goodwin and behaviours at the Dees.

The first was a contrivance by the great dope, Gil McLachlan, who was apparently concerned that Goodwin had had a few beers with some players at Sorrento in the off season and tried to get him sacked for it. What a nob. Goodwin went on to coach a flag the following season, so up yours Gil.

There was then the off field culture that supposedly developed among a cohort of players post the flag.

I’ll trust our board to have the knowledge and vetting in place to test all that. And getting a premiership coach into the club is a plus.

I think it's a positive move getting Goodwin on board, particularly considering how difficult it is enticing coaches from outside NSW. Even more so, filling this important Coaching Director role we've been crying for to assist Cox and the coaches in general.

I understand the concerns with Goodwin raised above, but that he'll also learn personally of any past mistakes as with anyone.

Let’s give him every opportunity to show what he can bring to improve us. We still need a coach for the ressies- any suggestions?

Luke Shuey? Cal Twomey reported during the year that we were trying to sound him out as an assistant (Cox influence i imagine). Not sure what came of it & whether it would push any of the existing assistants to coach the reserves like Ben Mathews?

The injury list didn't effect some sides. We don't have very good VFL listed players. That's our problem.
