John Longmire/Coaching Change?

Confirmed now that Longmire will stay in a role with the club - Executive Director – Club Performance.

“As Executive Director – Club Performance, John will be responsible for identifying and then implementing strategies that underpin world’s best practise in high performance on and off the field. He will have a particular focus on maximising the potential of the Basil Sellers Richard Colless Centre as a world leading destination for high performance in sport and business."

Great to see him staying at the club and being involved - I have little doubt he will do a great job in that space, at a really important time for the club off the field. Suspect it is primarily an off the field focused role, but I'm sure he will have a lot of value to add there too.

Great to see and basically confirms there is no animosity between him and the club and that he likely wasn't pushed.....or maybe that was put to him as a sweetener to step down?

Sheer speculation and it matters little. It's just great that he is still part of the Swans. Too good a person to lose.

.....they've also announced that Cox has been appointed for a four year term as coach. Which suggests some sort of planned succession and a lot of confidence in him. Rather than say, 'we'll just appoint Dean in the interim, while we search for a long term replacement'.

Also great news.....it's in no one's interests to have 'upheaval' at the club and Dean is the obvious choice.

I love the fact we have a club that leaked nothing about the fact Horse's contract allowed for an end at '24 or '25 as he'd told the club either option was possible, the club started work 18 months ago on succession planning, and the media had no clue about it.

Just watched the entire press conference and it makes me proud to follow this great club. It was done with absolute class and respect.

Thank you again Horse, you're a champion human.....and I'm excited for our future under Coxy, who is also a lovely bloke and worthy successor.

Will also say, have obviously seen snippets of Cox at pre-season or mid-week pressers. That was the most extensive I've seen him and it was deeply impressive. We will see whether he nails coaching, but he's clearly a good footy person too and actually spent most of his time crediting Horse.

Quite an impressive press conference. Not only from John, but also from Andrew Pridham and Dean Cox. I think the main thing that I took out of it, is that from at least the start of the Paul Roos era, we've had people involved throughout the club, who genuinely believe in what they say, when they talk about communicating well, treating other people with respect and cooperating effectively to hopefully achieve team success.

Great timing for Horse to move on. Did a great service when he was there and saw the transition from the old Swans team to the new. With him Parker and Reid gone, it feels we have moved on.
Club is doing a fantastic job in Identifying the next move with quick appointment For Cox. He is inheriting a team that is cherry ripe for a premiership in the next 2 -3 years. this change alsocomes at a time when the enthusiasm to come back to training may not be great amongst the playing group.

Yes, much the same with Cox. I've never really formed much of an opinion of him previously, but now I feel confident that he'll do a decent job of coaching.

Its human nature to find the negatives in everything, but on the whole, we've been given two decades of our club being run wonderfully well, by professional people that know how to seek success without trading out the want for a wonderful culture and approach in the football club. The club gets some things wrong - sure. But by and large - it is the envy of most other footy clubs out there, and leads by example on how it does many things.

I know its hard, as it is part of our DNA - but all we need to do is find a way to shake off the perennial 'bridesmaids' tag that has haunted our chase of ultimate success..

But by and large, as always, the club does so so much to make members and fans proud of it. The way this has been handled exemplifies that fact.

John Longmire has been an outstanding coach. It’s very rare that an AFL coach goes out by their own volition, and Horse is all class. It’s pretty clear the GF was as shattering for him as anyone.
Personally I’m very happy he’s remaining with the club.
Looking forward to seeing what Dean Cox brings to the role.

Absolutely the right call imo, been a great servant but definitely time for a change
