I agree, you don't sign a guy for 5yrs then make him available.

I see Mclean as surplus if we were to chase Curnow. Then we have a log jam of fringe/depth HFFs

If we are using our first pick it would be great to actually select a 1st rounder that plays regularly in 2026, have we ever done that ? Maybe Mills ?

Let’s use our first pick as part of a trade or swap for later picks to be used for our Academy boys- our track record with early picks is pretty ordinary! Not sure why that is, but we may as well accept it and use it more effectively. Of course there’s no guarantee that any of the kids will make it but at least they are home grown.

Re: Curnow. Yes, I’d love to have him if he wants to come to us, keeping in mind that Geelong was his first preference. Happy to include our first pick but I’d love it if we could convince Buller to be part of the deal. He wants to leave us so why not go to Carlton instead of the Pies? He’d get a game there every week for sure- ok, they are crap but who cares?

FWIW Matthew Lloyd believes Carlton are asking too much for Curnow and is likely to remain.

Heard on SEN yesterday that Buller's decision to ask for Trade to Collingwood came after he switched management. Club had contract in front of him since July prior to this.

Other examples of breaches punished by the AFL:
          * Adelaide fined $300,000 for breaching the salary cap and draft tampering in 2012, also stripped of two draft picks and Tippett fined $50,000 and suspended for 11 weeks: Tippett, Crows found guilty over salary cap breach
          * Sydney received trade ban for three years despite breaching no rules.

If the AFL was consistent, it would be fining Geelong substantially more, with no suspended fine and a three-year ban on any sponsorship of players without scrutiny and approval by the AFL.

Then there's Geelong's 2007 premiership, that may have been tainted by "supplements". The person running that program at Geelong in 2007 ended up at Essendon in 2012.

Buller has little or no value in a Curnow deal. We're about to find out what he's worth in our dealings with the Pies!

Best we can hope for is getting Serong in from Hawks for what we get from Pies for Buller

Like Healy, I'm worried about our pursuit of Curnow, a player whose first choice of club is administrative error prone Geelong and not us.

We're now into that period of Trade Week where nothing happens, it's all saved up for the last minute rush on Wednesday. At least this year Essendon and Dodoro won't be "winning" Trade Week yet again LOL

Again, in Bullers defence he would be silly to think he gets a game with Logan, Joel and Hayden available not to mention Ladhams and Green.

Interesting to see the delisted card we can play with Buller as well, forever Unrestricted if the Pies make us go down that path

i think Buller is a better option than Joel, who tends to keep close to goal cause he struggles kicking for goal unless he is relatively close and even then he is a worry. So its off to draft for Buller if Pies cant meet our need. Still want to forget Curnow

Glad I am not alone on the anti Curnow chase lol as for Buller, I see no different to Serong both are behind others and harbour no ill feeling for him seeking more opportunities.

Interesting that hawks are now in discussion with swans re serong. should not be long before its thru for pick 63
The Hawks football boss said Jai deserves to be given the opportunity to play at afl level and he hopes sydney is the place where he will get the chance. On these words jhawks should just sign transfer and move to the next item. we can then look ay pies for butler assuming that they want to continue. so give us pick 38 and its over or he goes to draft.

Saints pull out of deal with Leek Aleer, should we dip our toe on that pond ?

I think with our sights set on Serong, unlikely.

BTW, how stiffed must Aleer feel. Got led along and promised the world for two years in effect, given they had a crack at him last year, and now he's been left at the alter. If I was his manager too, I'd be wary of anything the Saints brought to me from here on.

Here is an interesting post on Reddit about the infamous trade ban. "I just thought what they [AFL] did to Sydney was disgraceful to be honest." Liam Pickering on the AFL banning Sydney from trading in players after signing Lance Franklin. A lot of supportive comments.

The word is Leek Aleer was looking for a house in Melbourne, so he may have his heart on a Melbourne team. Keeping in mind we have to match bids for the Academy boys and get Jai Serong over the line. If we pull out of the Curnow deal, then Aleer might be a possibility if we can woo him.

Not sure if any any club would match the Saints contract offer of $700k pa, so Aleer may have to house hunt in a cheaper postcode.
This will certainly damage Saints trade dealings in future. Talk is they no longer have the draft capital to trade him in and are reluctant to dip into future 2nd round picks (2027).

Edit: There is fan speculation that the Saints pulled out of the Aleer trade because they're now targetting Sam DeKoning to join his brother. That makes their integrity even worse!

AFL changes the rules amd. Ow Geelong offer 3 first round draft picks for Curnow and that should see us out of the race thanks god
