if we loose players the fabric of our team/club will change. siggest we are almost eben or better that we dont pick up Curnow. We did not loose players for buddy or plugger. Remember where we finished the season in 2024, First not bad for a team without a name fwd. Although curno may be better than Amartey not sure if the club can sitstand players being forced out. Maybe Red and white online should have a poll.

as a follow up Cox must be wanting to win a premiership like we all do but we do it with support not by issuing suggestions like 'maube its time to find a new club' or we are breaking your contract so we can get Curno. Also why do we donate to swans academy when we look as though we will not sign. Realise that maybe 2026 is not going to show us some real talent in academy players but we have 3 or 4 this year and to give up picks we make it hard. Remember Lachlan Carmickael was an U18aa. STILL say forgat Curnow. Afl also have a lot to answer for with the ability to offer trade picks 2 yrs in advance and not being strong on breaking contracts both by clubs and players (by asking to move ,eg merrett) A contract is a contract and maybe a contract going into its last year could be looked at as long as both sides are adequatley compensated, it a club asks they pay a fee and if a player asks they loose something not sure what. Maybe its one year only with the ability to extend the next tear.
Also if we have to loose a player what about Buller to Blues and not pies.

Hey lwj, appreciate your posts but a small suggestion - can you break posts up into an individual line/s on each thought you're conveying, rather than running them all together, as above, which makes it more difficult to read and absorb, cheers :-)

I'm with you in the must pick some of this years academy crop (King and Carmichael at a minimum) and I'm lukewarm about Curnow given what we will have to surrender

The Buller pick from Pies won't be much

This trade period to me has gone to another level whereby contracted players are either being forced out or requesting to be traded out. We're talking about players, including club captains, on multimedia year big contracts $$$$ and not just fringe players.

This is becoming very ruthless and concerned where all this is leading to. Contracts are becoming less worthy from a fans point of view.

            Totally agree, 3rd at best

I wonder what Collingwood think Rowbottom is worth ? I would be really happy to move on 2 of Rowbottom, Floreant and Hayward

Agreed- contracts are being discarded at will, both by some players (e.g. Curnow) and clubs when it suits them. I don’t think this is beneficial to our game. The thing is if we don’t make an offer for Curnow we could be seen as lacking ambition when there’s an opportunity and if we do offer up a contracted player then we’re making a mockery of contracts. We just can’t win!

They have been expendable for a few years, primarily from a players point of view. The situation with captains is certainly a new twist but the main one seems to be clubs have been willing to now say it’s a two way street. Who knows the absolute truth of what’s happening at the Swans bar Ollie, but when there’s an attempt to push a loyal servant like Jack Steele out the door, we’re effectively at the free for all stage.

The AFL website has posted a summary of trades that have yet to be finalised.

                    Of interest to the Swans:
                    * Charlie Curnow - Sydney has not yet tabled an offer.
                    * Ollie Florent - Told to explore his options. Wants to stay.
                    * Will Hayward - Possibly part of Curnow package. Wants to stay.
                    * James Rowbottom - Another player mooted as part of a Curnow trade. Also suggestions of other clubs. Wants to stay.
                    * Jack Buller - Not much apparent progress has been made so far.
                    * Jai Serong - Trade depends on other deals being done first.

Loyalty is a two way street. As a fan I was upset when Hewett was let go, ditto Cameron would have taken on Dunkley who did not want leave Melbourne (is Brisbane a Melbourne suburb?) and don't get me started on the club being asleep at the wheel with Dawson. Throw in Nankervis, Stevens and Dempster. How would the club like it if their fans also decide to explore their options?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Hewitt's back was shot and he wasn't getting a game anyway and was looking to move. Cameron played one game and didn't get a touch and was stalled behind several other ruckman including Tippett who would have been leading our B&F at the time he broke down and never recovered. Same with Nankeris. The club wasn't asleep at the wheel with Dawson, they'd had contracts in front of him all year, and if you listen the Kinear Beatson he hints that the Covid lock down was the last straw for Dawson's missus who already was homesick and putting pressure on to go back to SA. Dempster and Schneider were released as salary dumps. Who else from that premiership team would we have preferred to leave who would have significantly reduced total salaries? The Swans tried to do the right thing by a much loved ex-player in Andrew Dunkley by not taking his son if a Victorian team bid on him. The agreement was if another interstate club made a bid then Sydney would match that bid. With Mills in that same draft and still having blokes like Joey Kennedy the last thing we were looking for was another big bodied midfielder. No doubt he has turned out a champ, but his junior years didn't predict how good he would turn out. And it wasn't as though he was a top 10 pick anyway. He fell somewhere in the mid twenties I think before the dogs picked him. Your reference to Stephens is a strange one - I don't know too many supporters who mourn his departure.

If fans were to "explore their options", then they are not real supporters.

Players being talked about 1 yr into a 5 yr deals is poor.

You would have to think, Lloyd, Ramps and Adams have all had the same convo.

Would take Ollie over Lloyd in the side everyday of the week, the further up the ground the better for Ollie, in fact it's a very similar comparison as Lloyd, like Ollie, is no longer suitable for defence

Finally someone in the media talks about all the talls we have that are best 23 players that can't all play, Josh Jenkins.

Of course nothing to do with player agents' commission.

We didn’t lose players for Buddy because of free agency, but in the case of Plugger we traded Troy Gray and Robbie Neal to St Kilda
