It hurt losing Carmichael but thrilled to get Philipou who could be anything. A mate said Philipou's father played footy with Pav's father in the SANFL, if true, a nice connection.

Expect a couple of the outlier academy boys to be added tomorrow arvo in the RD.

Can't fault the clubs work this trade and drft period
Yes there were two sets of brothers at West Torrens. The Phillipou and Pavlich brothers. Steve and Mark Pavlich and Peter and Milan Phillipou

Ok so who are your best 23 for 2026 ?

who are the 5 others that have a significant chance to become part of our best 23?

who are your 2 sliders that might fall off the pace vs emerging talent?

Hope no club does a Greenwood on either Rampe or Lloyd. Rampe would be great at organizing an immature defence at a club like West Coast or North.

What with the Swans recruting, The way I see it we have so many small fwds we wont be able to play them Who misses ot Paps (i dont think so). Other than Serong we have not covered our breatest weakness a key/tall defender in 2 drafts that Cox and Keane have been in charge. We tried to make our only key defender TMc a fwd last year so who is the fwd Cox will try as a defender this yr.
Also Cal Twomey is nor better than Mat Keating (zero hanger) and Ben Waterhouse from Fox Footy in their predictions. AFL. com sprouts Twomey as the greatest (they dont sys ao but write as if he is) whereas the other people are just as good. We should not only reference CT in our analysis.

We could recruit clones of Buddy, Plugger, Paul Kelly and Adam Goodes in the same draft and some would still know better.

              My 23
B: Wicks, Melican, Serong, Mills, McCartin, Blakey.
Mids: Gulden, Chad, J Mac, Grundy, Heeney, Rowie.
F: Rosas, Logan, Jordan, Papley, Curnow, Dattoli
I/C Ladhams, Armatey, Sheldrick, Roberts, Campbell

              5 potentials to get games
              Green, Andrews, Bowman, Kyle, Phillipou,

              Sliders
Adams (surprised if he gets a game), Hamling, Lloyd.
Rampe will still get games as depth player along with Cunningham. Most likely all won"t be on the list next season except perhaps for Harry.

Looking through your list, I think that there's only around a dozen guaranteed starters, and that's not because of a lack of depth, it's more like lots of talented players fighting for spots. If we have a good run with injuries, there'll be no real areas of weakness. Though that will be helped by young players continuing to improve. Definitely think we'll be contending until very late in the season.

Are there any Academy boys likely to be added to Rookie list today? And how many spots do the Swans have left after the 4 Draft additions ?

Just spoke to a fella in the know, Bullies supporter.

Was stoked we let LC, Allies Captain go but said we did very well with Phillipou.

All up we have four list spots left. We have several option s with those 4. The limits on list spots are as follows'

Up to 38 Primary. We have 37
Up to 6 Cat A, we have 2
Up to 2 Cat B, we have 1

So there are a few combinations we can try. We can get one pick from the Pre-Season Draft or draft all Rookies or a combination of both. Lloyd and Rampe have to be taken into consideration so only 2 list spots. probably McNamara and Chamberlain.

I just want to talk about Angus Anderson. He was drafted by Pies. He is a very solid player. A very good bullocking mid. He comes from the strongest club in the Coffs League, Sawtell Toormina. He would have had a lot of experience of winning premierships. When I was living in Coffs I think they won at least 4 premierships in a row. I asked the people why they were so strong and the answer was great management. Creating a talent pathway and hiring great coaches. In other words a very well run club. Something like Southport. Anderson won't be your star player, but he will be the reason you won a premiership.

I don't think we can make a judgement until the preseason trial games. There is much more depth than last year. Bringing in Serong, Rosas and Curnow and drafting well for the now, has made our list a lot stronger. We traded and drafted players who have the ability to be more than depth. That can come in and make a difference. That has been our problem. Grey, Taylor, Francis etc don't strengthen your list they are just depth in case something goes wrong. That is not sustainable and the need is for players who have impact. The trouble is we have for a long time played shallow, ,mainly due to the contracts of Bud and Tip. Then after that I think the List Managers got into the habit of just looking for mediocre players to protect the Cap. But they forgot we not longer had Tip or Bud's payments clogging the cap. This new List Management have far different ideas and are Trading more than solid players, players with BIG ability and Drafting huge talent not just role players. Yes, they will all play their role but they have more in them. They have abilities that will make other sides fear us.

We do not need to address any more Key Defensive stocks other than Serong. We already have the replacements in the reserves. The fact everyone was injured last year, including Tommy Mac (although early he was played up forward, stupid move) and Melican at times made it hard. At the same time Snell was not quite ready, I expect him to develop much more this year. Edwards, man mountain (197cm 101kg defenders, who can shut down opponents are gold) was injured most of the year and will hopefully be fully fit next season. I thought, when they finally allowed Hamling to play defence in the last half of the season he was very good and held his spot with both Tommy & Mellie.
