Some better footy this quarter so far - the hand ball game is evident

Probably the main reason that Port are in front, is that they're right on top in the clearances. Cleary looks down on confidence and needs to lift. Others need to get their hands to the ball.

Snell is probably our best, so far. Dattoli has shown plenty of class, when the ball comes his way. Bowman was pretty good in that quarter. Shipley was his usual industrious self, and was unlucky to cop a HTB, after the umpires ignored a more obvious one ten seconds earlier.

Another long season in the VFL. currently 16 points behind, should be closer to 10 goals behind. Snell, bowman and Edwards just OK. The rest are not worth a mention.

Nice to see our forwards both clunking them and kicking straight.

Much better quarter. Evened up the clearances, ball pressure was good, forwards taking marks and defenders intercepting.

We are desperate for midfielders Cleary is still a long shot at best to make and after that who else do we have ?

A solid win, with Edwards in defence, Dattoli and Cootee looking very promising. Edwards is a booming kick.

Good to get the win in the end. Port's kicking for goal cost them the match. Had they kicked straight, Port could have won that by a few goals. Port won every stat except the one that mattered: 12 goals 6 to 7 goals 15.

Pressure seemed to make the difference in the last quarter. Only one goal kicked for the quarter for both teams, a late goal to McLean after being gifted a 50 metre penalty. Otherwise the kicking for goal was rather inept with several behinds and a few more out on the full for both teams. A Port player hit the post, that was their best effort in that last quarter.

Edwards and Snell did some nice things in defence in that last quarter.

Overall a win, but most of the time losing the disposals count by a ratio of about 4 to 3 doesn't usually produce wins.

A good tough win in the end, especially in the second half, where we put plenty of pressure on whoever had the ball for Port Melbourne. And that pressure enabled our defence to dominate. Bowman, Edwards and Kyle all had strong games, while Snell was probably BOG. Hamling was also good when he was down there, but he probably had more influence when swung forward.

McLean was also a decent forward target, while whenever Dattoli goes near the ball, I'm confident something good will happen. Unfortunately, I thought it was the opposite for Hanily. He's usually good at this level, but today he had the reverse Midas touch.

In the midfield, Shipley was probably our best. Cleary improved in the second, as did Cootee, who did some decent things in close. VFL listed Mellis impressed me, both by topping the tackle count and by having a bit of spark with the ball. And it's a shame that Podmore-Taylor picked up an early concussion, as I thought he was doing well in the ruck until then.

I'm now looking forward to next week's game against the Giants.

On Tv to me Snell was our best player, maybe living up to whatOn the McVeigh saw in him when he suggested we pick him up. Both Hayden and Joel H dis well althogh I think Joel is past AFL whilce I think hayden still has a lot to Offer. Will E Looked good at times but needs to get fitter, Harry K is still a way off, Jeavan P look good and more games will help him as he missed most of preseason. Cleary not up to it Jesse D very good but is stiff with what's ahead of him in snrs (paps and rocas). Hannily fumbled a lot but he like JD has stiff opposition in snrs.Hetherton also looked good at times andshould improve with more games. Same for Billie C with fitness to improve after missing most of pre season. Must admit Posmore Taylor aalso looked good in ruck until injured and might be a prospect

I was also pleased that Edwards looks like he's improved his agility. Which was my knock on him in the past: strong in the air, excellent kick, but not so good when the ball is bouncing around. Maybe that extra preseason fitness work that he did is now paying dividends?

Nice to see the 2s have a win in the end, Snell, Edwards, Mclean and Hamling have shown they are ready IF and When there's an opportunity and the next group Bowmen and Cootee look like with some run in their legs they could be ready for a shot later in the year - the rest of the AFL listed palyers were pretty underwhelming

                                My best (Swans only) were:
3 votes Snell - defended desperately and provided plenty of dash, not perfect but one of the best games I have seen from him
2 votes Dattoli - skilful and smart, should be more selfish in front of goal
1 vote Edwards - solid and a long kick to clear the 50, could have been McLean who displayed strong hands and a solid set shot

Bowman, Hamling & Cootee looked good in patches. Kyle, Hetherton & Phillipou were quiet, but showed glimpses.
I'm a big Clearly fan, and while he was hard working across all 4 quarters, his disposal and decision making were just off today.
Hanily had a game to forget
