So we're already about 20,000 in front of them?

Exactly. And some people on RWO talk like the size of the crowd is more important than the game itself.

It was 78,000 till they added that dinkly little 3,500 seat stand at the northern end.

Wonder why they didn't put one at the southern end as well?

I heard that it was because SCG members who have a thing for sitting behind the bowlers arm at the cricket wanted a similar raised seating option for when cricket is played at Homebush - this seating does have a walkway joining it to the Members section at Homebush....

Watching the turnstiles ticking over is as good a way as any to kill time waiting for the game. Can't watch the grass grow - there's a drought on.

Seriously, though. I would be excited to see a record crowd for the game, and have to profess an interest in the crowd figure. But as you say, Cruiser, it's not exactly the point of the whole night is it?

The capacity is on the Telstra Satdium website:

Telstra Stadium's seating capacity varies from 83,500 for Rugby Union, Rugby League and Soccer to 81,500 for Cricket & Australian Football.

                81500 minus
                17500

                = 64000

                AAMIs capacity is 51515

So that's 12485 more people at the moment.

No the crowd isn't the point, but it would be a pretty major milestone for AFL in Sydney. I have always found crowd figures, trends etc pretty interesting.

Would LOVE our record crowd not to have Collingwood attached to it.

I have been to other grounds where they post an accumulating total as the day/ night progresses (tho not at TS). That could keep us busy for at least a few minutes.

I think it will be a stretch to get 70000 - as I said - a crowd of 65000 will still be a pretty good achievement!

Surely the technology is available to show the virtual stadium fill up, seat by seat, as the tickets are sold. If it was really clever it could send you a pic of who you are sitting beside.

Be a lot of no-shows if they did that!

TelstraDome does that, it keeps you amused whilst nothing is happening on the ground before the game.
