But would we want bogans asa apart of our supporter base? And if so they are generally the most loyal to League even if they aren't loyal to their teams.
    Answer: Yes.

Best atmosphere was back in 96 when the bogans bought tickets to games, when you didn't have to buy a membership to get in. When you could take a mate for a fun night & everyone enjoyed themselves.

I brought my Brother in-law up to Sydney for the game and he was gob smacked at the crowd, he's St Kilda supporter he was amazed at the way the crowd presented it?s self in red and white. He explained that you wouldn?t see that in Melbourne and I was as proud as punch. Alright we didn?t make the expected target for crowd attendance, but the lead up was awesome and the end result was what we wanted. So before we slag other codes we need to take a look in our own back yard where we would have struggled to get a rent a crowd and too be honest if anyone in Sydney wants to jump on the band wagon so be it
so be it it?s a big wagon.

Charging around $85+ for most of the tickets almost guarantees that the die hards and bogans won't turn up. Can't blame them really. I notice Adelaide people whinging about prices yet they were $20 less than ours!

Ridiculous. Esp when there's a channel-hop available between both codes on the same night. Hope the AFL takes note!

That IS great isn't. The fact that so many people will don at the very least a blood red members cap means that the place is a real sea of red. It really really stands out on TV too, as opposed to the navy of the Crows fans, the purple of the Dockers & the black of teams like St Blunda SNdon, the Wobblers & PAP Smears. You notice it as well at games in Melbourne, such as when we played the Demons.

We have gotten them all to WANT to wear red & white at the game. Now we just have to get them to yell and cheer a bit more!

Bullhickey. Diehards by definition wouldn't care about the price. I know I didn't.

The problem with the crowds (and I admit there is a problem) is that the vast majority do not understand the history. I'll wager most members don't recall when Carlton tried to take the club over back in the early 90's. A move like that should consign the Blues to the first train to Loathesville and immidiate tribal instinct. But it doesn't in Sydney because no one knows/cares. There is simply no passion. Granted some supporters (such as those on this forum) will do anything by their club but in Sydney at least this is a minority group.

To be at the game is "fashionable". According to Telstra Stadium the best tickets were off the concourse and in the 2nd tier for the PF ($100 a pop). Yet any true supporter knows the best spot is on the fence to jeer and cheer and tell that nonse of an umpire where to stick his whistle. But that is not the done thing. As many people from the other states point out, most Sydney fans only cheer when we score or the ball is in their immidiate vicinity. At other times they go quiet and chat to their friends. WHAT THE HELL?

But getting back to the rivalry thing: Sydney has 4 bona-fide rivalries now that should immidiately scream "full house"; West Coast, Carlton, Brisbane and St. Kilda. But where is the local support? They couldn't care. Educate the fan base, and then they'll demand Chris Judd's head on a plate. Until then we are stuck with the soft-crowd tag.

                    end rant.

the afl rooted the preliminary final. the tickets were far too expensive and the promotion of the game was pitiful. they should have slashed the prices to halve their profit, used footage of the last seconds of the geelong match last year and the resulting mayhem in the crowds after and dared sydneysiders to miss such an event again. it could have been the hottest ticket in town and they would have reaped the lost revenue from the promotion benefits over the next couple of years.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Exactly, when you are going to charge like a wounded bull for the game you have to promote the game to the people, to show them why they should spend a inflated price to watch a game.
All well and good saying the die hards will turnout regardless (which is true in most cases), but the die hards only makes a fraction of the capacity of TS.

The AFL has proven once again that it doesn't give a toss about Joe-Public. It's all about squeezing as much out of every opportunity.

I think Collingwood and Essendon should perhaps be in there - at the expense of Carlton. Although I do remember the history behind WHY we should hate them, there are a few other memories I have:
Essendon being SO sour about the PF in 96
Collingwood being... well... Collingwood. They are/were (in 02,03 etc) like the Eagles are now. Arrogant 'champion' players and their feral supporters
Kangaroos - beating us in 96 but also in 04 with Wally jackson. I don't know, I just can't quite get beyond that one.. mind you it was a few years ago.

But number one definately has to be weagles...
