Why is the Syney crowd so passive?

I ommitted Collingwood from the list because, frankly, it's a given that any side wants to trounce them. The Kangaroos, granted, especially when they tried to push into the Sydney Market. Who will ever forget 40,000 fans chanting "Carey's a Wanker" for the entire last quarter.Originally posted by Chiasmus about Rivalries
I think Collingwood and Essendon should perhaps be in there - at the expense of Carlton. Although I do remember the history behind WHY we should hate them, there are a few other memories I have:
Essendon being SO sour about the PF in 96
Collingwood being... well... Collingwood. They are/were (in 02,03 etc) like the Eagles are now. Arrogant 'champion' players and their feral supporters
Kangaroos - beating us in 96 but also in 04 with Wally jackson. I don't know, I just can't quite get beyond that one.. mind you it was a few years ago.
But number one definately has to be weagles...
But Carlton? Carlton gets no sympathy from me and nor should they from anyone. The fact that Sydney has been competitive in the finals for the last 10 years (bar two abberations) is a slap in the face to those who think that the Salary Cap and the Draft kill off teams being dominant. John Elliot screwed with the system (with the support of the board, he just took the fall) and the end result is justice.
I remember back when I started trying to indoctrinate my girlfriend into Aussie Rules a very simple explination for how a support should see things: It's a game of good guys vs bad guys. The bad guys (the opposition) have some very talented players, but we don't like them because the are on the bad team. The good guys (us) are always the best, and anyone who plays for us is gold (think Lockett before and after the trade). Then we have the umpires who are like the police and enforce the game. But when they help the bad guys they get our wrath too. Bottom line: despise everyone and everything not wearing red and white.
The moral: It doesn't really matter why you loathe the other team, the important thing is that you do. Perhaps it's time for the Daily Rag to publish a swans supporter's opinion about the opposition on Friday to explain why we jeer them so on Saturday.
Now, give me Chris Judd's head on a plate dammit!10100111001 ;-)Comment
