    As I've been saying, the pre season draft is my preferred method but if it is to be a trade then a 3rd round draft pick (unlikely) or our second round pick.

    Furthermore, if we were to trade someone such as Vogels, it could be to a club like Brisbane for a high second round pick, therefore we could retain a pick in a very good draft in the second round (possibly early on).

    Brisbane look like they'll be very active with players wanting to go all over the place so it is a possible scenario that could benefit us.

    I don't think a straight player swap for Everitt is going to happen or necessarily benefits us in the way involving a third party could.

    In summary:

    Vogels ---> Brisbane
    Brisbane's Pick 21 (?) ---> Sydney
    Sydney's Pick 33 ----> Hawks
    Everitt ---> Sydney

    Lions get a talented tall forward
    Vogels gets an opportunity to play regularly
    Sydney get an early second round pick and a ruckman
    Hawks get a second round pick
    Spida gets a shot at a flag

    Winners all round
    Ain't going to happen.. Roosey does love Vogels... I'm a bit partial as well.....

    But I am starting to get swayed by the trading of Mathews... As much as I had to say it....

      Scew Everitt, just get some good young players.

      This is just like Adelaide and Carey. He play a couple of good games, BUT HE WON'T WIN US A FLAG.

      A team might, one player won't.

        It's good to see that someone is on my wave length, because most of the people on this site aren't. This is supposedly the best draft in years, so let's roll the dice and hopefully take advantage of it. If we manage to get Spida in the pre season draft for nothing, consider it a bonus!

          A few decent players in the draft are going to make little difference to winning a flag with the current experienced players (eg: Hall, MOL).

            Isn't this just two separate trades?

            Vogels for 21
            and
            33 for Everitt. (which Hawks have said is unacceptable)

              Again with the flag talk, we don't need Everitt to win a flag, but this arguement could go on forever so we'll just agree to disagree shall we?

                That's fine. My point though was not that we need Everitt to win a flag, but every bit helps and I think he would be a great addition, more so than a round two draft pick.

                  I think we will end up getting him cheaply.

                  If Spida is adamant about Sydney and willing to go into the PSD. The Hawks will end up taking pick 2. Just like Collingwood did for Nick Davis.

                    I would rather trade our second round pick than Vogels.

                      Yes but it ensures we keep a second round pick in a strong draft. I wouldn't like to do one trade without the other.

                        Tonight's news has heels digging in: the Hawks want a R1 pick and Roos is now saying he'll negotiate directly with Spida and his manager rather than the Hawks and get him in the psd.

                          The Hawks are probably thinking "we got away with it last year with Hay and the Kangaroos, who can we screw now?"

                          Look at the irony: they are desperate to land Thornton ( a young KPP) but are not willing to offer a first round pick to the Blues, yet they are demanding a first round pick for a 32 year old ruckman who is out of contract and they would only offer 1 year to anyway.

                          Clarkson = the new Sheedy.

                          Don't trade with these jokers!

                            I think it really depends on how big you think our current window is for winning a flag. I think we have 1, maybe 2 years - therefore getting Everitt is not a bad idea. Obviously would have been better last year, but it's not too late yet.

                            Two years from now, it will all be about draft picks, but we have to strike now IMO.

                            Besides, I'm still not convinced that high draft picks necessarily means you're going to get great players. Sure, in the top 3, you're going to get some quality, but it's a lottery after that...

                            Nic Fosdike, Ryan Fitzgerald, Jude Bolton - Top 10 picks in the '98 draft.

                            Adam Goodes - pick number 40-something. Arguably better than all three of the above.

                            If we're rebuilding, great - let's do it properly. But IMO that time has not come yet.

                            Having said all that, Everitt is far from a certainty. If the price is right, we'll get him.

                            177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

                              The thing you are missing is that drafting by all clubs has improved about 3000% since 1998.

                              Finding an Adam Goodes in the 40's will still happen but it is happening less and less every year as all the clubs improve. High draft picks are like gold now.

                                Finding another Adam Goodes would be next to impossible i reckon. Maybe another Adam, that's a common name, but to have the same first and last name would be really freaky
