It was Ricky Nixon who made it known in the first place that a Melbourne club had entered the race for Everitt.
Sit down or i swear to God i'll have you shot.

          latest news on Everitt.

Looks like the Swans have revised their offer to Hawthorn - They're a good bloody lot of negotiators at the Hawks aren't they???

Yeah I was trying to be kind to our guys. Come on first Jon Hay now 2nd Round and crappy swapping of picks to make the Swans feel like they have a partial victory.

Don't get me wrong, i have endless respect for Roos, but this is a rookie mistake if it goes though. All we had to do was wait it out, until Hawthorn were left with the choice of our 3rd round pick, or nothing.

Likely scenario was Ricky Nixon telling the Swans that a team like St Kilda are willing to take Everitt at the price he is contemplating putting on his head for the pre season draft.

So tell me why couldn't we up his asking price to scare off other teams and keep the supposed second pick on offer - IN A STRONG DRAFT!!!

Information for trivia nuts, St Kilda traded Spida at end of 2002 for draft selection No 6 ( Steven Salopek), draft selection 22 (Mathew ferguson).

When you compare what the sainters wanted compared to the Hawks, it would be a win win situation I would think.

Can't compare the two drafts though. Unfortuneately we have not had a good reputation with keeping draft picks....as long as we have 4 to 5 picks between 40-60 the club seems to be happy

Let's hope Ricky uses his magic to find the Goodes/ROK's of this draft....they don't give him much to play with.

                          Hypothetical quandry ...

Ross Lyon takes the job at St Kilda ... He knows Roos (and the Swans) want Spider - Will Ross Lyon try to get Spider in the PSD if any trades with Hawthorn are not finalised this week and Spider nominates for the PSD - or will Ross Lyon let his old mate Roos get the man ?

Will friendship and 3 years of loyalty override Lyon's knowledge what the Swans could possibly achieve with Spider in the team ?

My view - I don't know, probably why I am posting it for discussion - Does Lyon agree with Roos that Spider would be good for us ? If so, he will try to take Spider before us - he will need to think the man is good enough for another couple of years and could help the Ainters. If he doesn't think so, then the Ainters must withdraw from the trade talks with Hawthorn re Spider as soon as Lyon is appointed - That will leave Hawthorn with a problem - One club, take third pick or get nothing when Spider gets to the PSD and gets to Sydney anyway.

Interesting day coming up I think. Thoughts ?

problem seems to be that Roos doesn't want "Bad-blood" between the clubs....could he be too nice for his own good. It is Hawthorn who are being ruthless in this deal.

Good question Frog. I think that if St Kilda do assess their list and decide they need Spida then Lyon has to and will take him in the PSD before us (assuming everyone is happy with their offer etc.)- he needs to confirm his new loyalty to St Kilda and it is a huge opportunity to do it by "stealing" someone from his former club. If they want him and Lyon doesn't take him he is a lame duck coach already.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
