Just because of the emergence of another player who looks physically capable - now - of playing that spare parts forward line role. He's going to be competing with the likes of Grundy and Vogels for senior opportunities this year.Originally posted by TMSS
why should vogels be concerned liz? he injured his hip before half time. Nothing serious though thankfully as I think he will be required round 1.
I only suggested Vogels maybe had more to worry about than Grundy because a) Vogels is a few years older; and b) we haven't had a look at Grundy yet this year so don't know whether he's improved any over the off season, while Vogels we've seen a bit of - admittedly only a limited amount but he doesn't look to have got obviously stronger, quicker, better in defence or more skilful. That in itself isn't the issue - at his age we're likely to see imcremental improvement rather than anything drastic - but if he has more competition for the limited senior chances, it will be tougher for him to show enough to secure his spot on the list.
Someone else pointed out that we've only see White play close to the goal square and that is a fair observation. Vogels has played more of a roaming forward role and we haven't seen whether White can do that.Comment

My friend talked to the Eski after the game and he said he will be fine. Just didn't play the rest of the game as a precaution.Official Driver Of The "Who Gives A @@@@ As The Player Will Get Delisted Anyway" Bandwagon.

I worry about Kieran Jack's footskills. Not only are his kicks not horribly flash but to my naked eye they never really appeared to lack any sort of distance or penetration.Originally posted by liz
Not so sure about that. He played most of last season as a back pocket in the ressies and was pretty good dashing from defence and pumping the ball forward. Today was a huge task for him and you can't blame him for mostly sticking to the job he was asked to do.
But many others have started out as taggers before graduating into bigger roles and I think he has the raw attributes to become more of an all round player.
I may with well off with this observation, but it was just something I noticed from today's proceedings.

So you'd be talking about a different KJ from the one who kicked a beautiful pass (with Acker struggling in his wake) right into the breadbasket of _______ (insert name of relevant youngster). Not sure the pass ended up as a goal but it sure hit its mark - had both accuracy and depth. Not having a go, just felt need to support the kid.Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.Comment

One game does not a young footballer break.
A generalisation was made about KJ's footskills and there was a clear example in the game of this generalisation being overstated. The only point I was making. Never said he would be a champion.Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.Comment

I see White fitting into the team either as a tall forward, more than likely playing in a pocket close to goal. However this could well clog up Barry Hall at either CHF or FF (especially on the small SCG). My problem is that you can't play all of White Doyle Everitt AND Jolly in the side; we'd be way too top heavy. At the very least we'll have a young player with an already strong build who we can use if one of our key talls is injured. we didn't have any depth in the ruckman stocks last year; I think we do this season (touch wood)Originally posted by liz

Does anyone like the idea of trying to mould him into being a key position defender a la LRT? we badly need height in our backline & he is a darn site more mobile than LRT will ever be.
Why was Eski on HB as opposed to HF? We lacked that small player with good skills who could get the ball quickly into the FF line today; in my view he'd have been ideal.
Why does the Teddy Bear only appear to play as a key forward in the pre-season then get shunted down back when the regular stuff comes on? are they seriously grooming him as a back-up key position forward. Or just a fill in for Hall & O'Laughlin?
Why are we still bothering with Bevan after all these years. Bevan's skills are getting no better. Even the young pups appear to have better footskills & basically ability to read the play & position themselves properly than him.
Surely we should be looking to develop Grundy as a small forward instead of him in the FF line. The only way I can see Bevan's career changing is if he maybe looks to become a tagger. Because otherwise I think his time is vety limited at AFL level, at least with us, NSW boy or no..

What about Eski, McVeigh, O'Loughlin, O'Keefe, Davis, Buchs, Goodes etc? no team has 30 odd players with perfect skills, you're a harsh judge, especially to single out Kirk and Schneider, two very important players who always make up for their errors.Originally posted by ROK Lobster
