I thought in that first half McVeigh was scared. His efforts to get to a contest were weak and on the odd occasion he got near a contest he didn't want to know about it. He also refused to chase.

Mathews' kick across the ground to I think J Bolton and McVeigh (what a goose) was just plain stupid. Last time I looked the goals were straight ahead.

Anyone who says Bevan is an AFL player needs certifying. The man has no idea. Any chance he might keep his feet. His effort was palpable.

J Bolton - well if ever someone has received a total towelling at centre bounces his was it today. How Sloooow is heeeeee aaat realisinnnnng thaaaat theeee baaaall haaaaas beeeeeen bouuuuunced. He gives this side absolutely nothing and dont you just love it-another miss from dead in front and it went the same side of his body as it always does. He runs to the right hand side of the goal from a set shot and thats where the bloomin' pill went/goes. He is a total waster not worth a pinch of billy goats droppings.

On the argument of dropping 4/5 players at once - 5 new players couldn't possibly do any worse. The 5 new players surely are quicker, can find the footy more often, have some heart and when they do get the pill have some skill to deliver the thing and even perhaps follow instructions, or heaven forbid have a higher IQ.

What really gets on my goat is that it is the same group of blokes who let us down, and a different group who have a bit of ticker and get us back in the game.

By the way any chance that Ablett might hit a target or at least get within 20 metres of one before the season's end. Watched what I did of the game with my brother in law who is an umpire and bless his soul a bummers supporter, and watches as much footy as he can in Coffs Harbour, and he said straight out that Ablett is simply no good. Cant see how anyone could rate him.

Probably a good time to give the leadership group tripe the boot, pick the side on form, drop a few duds and change the gameplan to freshen up the minds of those players who still have the hunger.

Everyone has made comments as how frustrating it was watching on TV. The only way I can describe what it was like actually watching it live would be if you were watching it in your loungerooms with somebody turning the shower on cold on you for 3 hours. The whole "can't feel the fingers" "water soaking through the undies" thing. It sucked big time.

I had a big arse post all written but the computer crashed. Most of it has been said already to be honest. Team have worked out our handball happy gameplan out of defence. They realise that players like Leo Barry will hardly ever opt to kick it. You can only break tackles for so long I guess. But the fact that we continue to engage in such a high risk gameplan when getting the ball out of defence is indicative of our One-dimensional we are as a team & how one-dimensional Paul Roos can be as a coach at times.

Blind Freddy knows that it is more often than not wet & slippery in Geelong. So why did Roos omit the low centre of gravity Jarrod Moore & play the overweight hepher Luke Vogels? Because he worked playing at FF in a game against the Bulldogs 3 years ago.

Our huff & puff onballers are an embarrassment to the club at the moment. Jude Bolton Amon Buchanan Brett Kirk Paul "Why am I even in the side" Bevan & Nick "Out of Bounds on the full" Fosdike are all masters of diving into packs then sending a kick or handpass nowhere near its intended target. All Geelong had to do is wait for our stuff-up then play for each other, getting the ball down field in numbers using decent disposal. We need LESS in and under muppets with the kicking skills so bad no NRL team would even touch them and more players like Nick Malcevski who can actually run at pace and hit a target with his kicks, even in the wet.I

It is all & well having Peter Everett in ruck making exquisite tap-outs. But can anyone seriously tell me how our rovers are? Because there is NOBODY crumbing off his tap-outs at all. At one stage Nick David even puchjed the ball out of O'Laughlan's grasp 40 metres out FFS!

On a positive note Laidlaw showed promise. I'll forgive him in his first game for the Out Bounds on the full with his first shot at goal.

We as a club are at the crossroads to be honest. We have lots of home games from here on in. We may well scrape into the finals of we win enough of these. But do we really deserve to?

Why do we continue to play 3 quarters of complete rubbish yet try and win matches with 10 minutes of decent footy a game? Why can't the team that played the first 15 minutes of the last quarter turn up in the 1st quarter? why do we not have a game plan that is less based on firing pinpoint passes to each other. Because again Blind Freddy would know that umpteen handpasses under pressure in the defensive 50 is a sure fire way of sending our clanger count skyhigh.

Thank God we have interstate muppets Freo in Sydney next Sunday. Oh boy, that match is going to be a feast for the footy purists, NOT!

Name the player in the 2's who replaces Ablett.
We can't just sack players for the sake of it - Ablett is solid - if unspectacular but you need someone who is going to do better - who is that? This is the problem with our 2's - no one has a fair dinkum gauge to measure them against senior footy. Moore would be the only player I could think of that could play the Ablett role - but he was pulled out today.

I am as disappointed as all of you but I thought they tried bloody hard against a very good side at home today. No excuses, but it was a good 2nd half. Guess what - we won't finish top 4 every year.

Assessing most of this year's losses, (notably to West Coast in Round 1, the Kangaroos, Essendon, Collingwood and now Geelong), as well as last year's grand final, I am afraid we are like an above average long distance runner: good at endurance at the end of the race, but ultimately just not quick enough to keep with the leading pack at the beginning. We are sooo slow against to some of these clearly younger teams.

Still, focusing on the Geelong game, against the warm flag favourites, (who didn't even make the 8 a year ago), at least it was a "Cattery improvement"- a 5 goal plus loss in '06 late in the season in a grand final year, to a 3 goal loss in round 13.

He's not that sort of player. He reads the game well and often is there when it comes out. Bolton J gets his hands dirty, I know who is the better player...

Did you notice the time in the last qtr when he was running alongside O'Keefe in the forward 50, O'Keefe did not have control, Davis ran to where it should have been tapped on to, O'Keefe dragged it back in. Good tough play from O'Keefe, real dirty hands stuff. Maybe cost us a goal at the stage when things were close though...

I disagree o'keefe was trying to beat 3 players on his own whilst Davis peeled off to an open area. O'keefe bottled the ball up due to an apparent lake of help. Davis may have ran to the correct spot but obviously didn't use any voice otherwise O'keefe would have tried to tap it out not bottle it up.
In my opinion Davis could have quite easily taken one of the Geelong defenders out with decent body pressure and then made it a 2 on 2 contest.

Don't get me wrong Davis is at times a great player but for all the hype he gets on this board at times he just doesn't do the 1% enough for my liking and a player with his experience should be having a greater impact on games more often. If we are to make the Finals and with Hall Injured a player like Davis has to really step up over the next few weeks not just play a bit part

O'Keefe was laying on the ground. Davis takes out a player and O'Keefe bottles it up in a one on one. He went to the right spot. O'Keefe lacked awareness (as well as the abiltiy to stay on his feet) but Davis is in the wrong for not diving in there too? So far as I can tell there were 3 ways that could have panned out. The way it did. Davis applying some body pressure and O'Keefe being in a one on one (but on the ground so the best result is a stoppage). O'Keefe knocking to space and a scoring opportunity for Davis.

The Swans are way too negative. Whether or not O'Keefe knew Davis was there he should have kept the ball going forward, that close to goal, at that stage of the game. We still have the stoppage mindset, which is stupid when we are getting blown away in first halves consistently. The only time we don't look like rubbish is when we start to play that keep it going forward at all costs football.

I didn't think Davis had a great game yesterday, but he was better than plenty.

I quite enjoyed that game. Some of Sydney's games have been quite dull this season, but the brilliant comedy in this one made it worth watching. Dropping Schneider, one of the few players to offer any spark and impact, was only the beginning. Then there was Dempster getting run down, Everitt shoving a Geelong player from behind a few metres out from goal, the constant disposal errors... It's either laugh or cry, I guess.

Oh, and can somebody please explain this to me:

I am sure he knows a hell of a lot more about the game than you. Umpired reserves in the VFL in the 80's and would have made it to the top bracket, but because it didn't pay much decided on a career that did. Still umpires at 49 and has more than a big hand in establishing Aussie Rules in the North Coast Region of NSW. He looks at it from an unbiased point of view not being a Swans fan, but most people in that region who follow the game have more than a keen interest in the Swans for obvious reasons.


But then your last paragraph says it all from a fan who clearly loves mediocrity, quote: "they tried bloody hard".
