As I said in the other thread, I have to wonder what the point is in keeping someone like Mathews in this week. It's not like WC are currently full of midfielders we need to tag.

Bit confused about that statement. Kerr obviously needs a tag.

Judd, Priddis, Braun, Cousins, Fletcher could all do with one as well. Obviously 2 or possibly 3 of these won't play but still wouldn't hurt tagging those that are playing.

So Mathews could line up on Braun, Priddis or Fletcher.

I wouldn't risk him on Kerr, Cousins or Judd (even if they were blindfolded). But any of these that play need a tag regardless of form, fitness, inury concerns.

        My matchups:

        Kerr - Ablett
        Judd - Goodes
        Cousins - Kirk
        Braun - Mathews
        Priddis - Jude Bolton

          Judd can barely run.

          Fletcher isn't playing.

I'm not sure how much Braun needs a tag as opposed to just a normal defender.

          Does Priddis need a tag?

I think that in most cases you only need to really tag at most 2-3 opposition players. WC is unusual when its full complement of midfielders is playing, but that's not the case at the moment.

If Judd does play, he will play fwd.....

              Who to him then???

Ted might be a nice match up to him. Maybe even, of all people, Bevan??

I think this could be Mathews' best chance of beating Judd. Or is a Judd on one leg still too good for him?

Please not Bevo.....Judd won't have to move, Bevo will give away his usual 3-5 frees, right in front of the sticks.
Needs to be someone who will run off him at every given chance.....Crouch would of been good for that role. Maybe Amon could be the one ??

You people and your supposed 'football brains' really are quite hopeless. Mathews isn't the best tagger in the game but he damn well does a fine job the vast majority of the time. Mathews lacks personality, fire and emotion on the field and I think this works against him in the eyes of the cynical idiots that give this board its name. Regardless, he consistently shuts down opposition player's, and thus his job is done. He is not a playmaker as so many of you seem to think he should be, and he never will be.

Seriously though, shut the @@@@ up about this issue. Nobody of any authority is listening to your Mathews' related whingeing and, even if they were, they certainly wouldn't be taking advice from you.

Per my match ups in my previous post, they didn't include Fletcher.

Beware the injured Judd, if he does play don't be suprised if he carves us up. Pain killing injections can often do wonders. Round 1 this year saw Kerr in doubt too, look what he did to us!

The point is, there (unfortunately) is still a place for Mathews against a midfield of Kerr, Braun, Priddis, Cousins, Judd and co.

Wake up to yourself Mogg0. Do you really believe RWOers think Roos' pours over these threads each night? We know what we write will have no impact on team selection, but we do enjoy venting our frustration in a public arena.
I think most people he would agree Matthews can play a shutdown role with varying results (sometimes he can be very good), but that is it. What we want (the "benny baggers" is for some one else to be given a chance to play the same position who may (or may not, don't know until we try) have offensive skills as well.

                                Not many.

But they were without Kerr and Cousins.

In addition Port have a much more telented midfield then us anyway (Chad & Kane Cornes, Sean Burgoyne, Daniel Pearce etc) and could afford to go head to head.

I'm only suggesting 2 tags - one for Kerr and the other for one of Cousins/Braun/Priddis/Judd. The rest we go head to head with.
