The 50m was against Kirk for giving the ball to the wrong player. The MMM radio commentary picked up on it and the TV replays clearly showed it. The free kick itself was pretty soft. The tanty started after the 50m was awarded.

In a game high on goals but short on truly memorable highlights, that Brett Kirk goal in the 2nd quarter where it looked like he was destined to get cleaned up, but just took the mark and sauntered in to goal untroubled: it left me speechless.

Okay, it still wasn't as spectacular as Paul Kelly at his best. But just watching that kind of commitment and focus... it's inspiring as a viewer. Imagine what it must do to his teammates on the field.

PS How freakin' great is Spida Everitt? It's just about time to make that call: barring unexpected catastrophic injury some time soon, Sydney did the right thing in recruiting him. (Sorry, Donk.)

The guys on SEN, joked "How good would Kirk be, if he put his body on the line?"

          Fox studio's parking: under 3 hrs $4, 3 to 4 hours $8.

Yeah usually I park over at Fox but thought I'd go back to Goulburn Street, bad mistake.

Since people mentioned that free kick against Kirk - wtf was the second 50m penalty for right after that?

His problem is his stupidity when he is on 50 trying to pinpoint a dinky 20 metre pass. Both times today they were cut off and the turnover resulted in a direct goal. It is just perplexing why today he didn't put it up to the top of the square to Spida or Jolly.
Good point about the contest - altho he never looked like he was going to take a contested mark, often when he flew it ended up in a goal. You've got to give it to him that he's trying at least & nice for him that he ended up with some soft goals today.

As to whether it's his eyes causing the problem, you could figure that for the chest marks, but he just looks totally short of confidence in virtually every marking contest. Let's hope that's resolved by GF day.

Thought Goulburn Street was free with that coupon? If I am not going to drink, I park at GS, then walk up instead of the bus.

The free was pretty soft and the 50 was against Kirk. One of the Blues called for the ball, Kirk gave it straight to him and he was pinged for 50 for giving it to the wrong player. I would argue it was over-umpiring . It's not as if it was a deliberate attempt to slow the game down, IIRC the Carlton player was still picking himself up when Kirk gave the ball over to Waite.

That was superb. I think it was Frawley who noted that Kirk has such a great reputation for hardness that the young Carlton player knew Kirk wouldn't deviate and that made the Carlton player move slightly.

Everitt is brilliant - even made our midfielders look good with his fantastic taps.

Paying the 50m was pathetic in light of the several that could have been paid throughout the game for holding the man up after a free kick. The umpiring was generally APPALLING. How Jolly got awarded those two marks is beyond me.
Anyway - Melcho was SUBLIME today - his passing is a dream.
I was a bit annoyed at our defence, thought we were a bit lax in the 2nd half.

If you want to take to Barry Hall perhaps get the facts correct.

The 50 was against Kirk and the subsequent downfield free was against McPherson.

You're right, it was quite pathetic from Kennedy, the same scump who decided not to award 50 against Scotland when he played on a conservative 3 or 4 secs after the whistle had gone.

In a game with little or no pressure the umpiring was of a very poor standard - and this on a weekend when I thought most of the umpiring I saw was excellent. Anyway, we got as many ludicrous ones as they did.

Speaking of highlights, how good was Bevan's baulk and then 50+m pass to Davis in the first qr when there was no one else ahead of him? It was great to see some of the youngsters start to back themselves and take some risks. Just shows how little confidence they've been playing with this season.

That particular piece was brilliant. One of those plays where you had to be at the ground to appreciate it.

I thought Bevan did a couple of nice baulks. Reminded me of his best days in his first years. He also did a couple of ordinary things too.

What a pathetic reason for paying 50m. At the game I just assumed that it was against Hall for carrying on again.
