Rnd 9 v Western Bulldogs
Away game at Manuka. The serial pest Crouch is back to annoy Aker. No Davis or Kennelly.
The swans come out firing for the second week in a row. The much vaunted pace of the dogs seems to be left in Melbourne.
The highlight was Jolly's taking the ball from a throwin, fending off an opponent and kicking truly.
The dogs get a couple of late goals to make their score look respectable. Another strong term sees the lead blow out.
Each time the dogs start looking good, the swans hurt them on the scorebaord. Jolly and Everitt alternate up forward, collecting 4 goals between them. Goodes form is improving after last week. The dogs tighten up in the 3rd term, but it is the swans who are more desparate to win this game and triumph by 7 goals.

Fosdikes 150th. A cool dewy night at the SCG.
Kennelly and Davis are back. Deja vu sets in pretty early with the Dons scoring 4 unanswered goals in 9 mins. Our first 2 shots at goal were touched on the line, before Dempster banged one through from just on the 50. Another couple of goals and the margin is only a couple of kicks, after some worrying signs. The fumbles the missed kicks the missed handballs, the strange umpiring, all conspired against the swans. However they managed to grab a 2 point lead at the half time break. Hall is being well held by Michael and the umps. MOL was well contained by Paddy Ryder, and Fletcher was his usual pain in the behind self, getting a fist to the impossible ball, and being in the right place at the right time. C Bolton held the dangerous Lucas to only 1 behind while chipping in for 1.1 himself, including the final swans goal to get them within a kick of winning the game. Leo Barry also held Lloyd to only 3 goals. A single goal in a tight 3rd term to 5 points saw the lead increase by a solitary point at 3 qtr time. May have been 2 points if Spida had of marked the shot from Lucas after the siren, or the umps had of made a different decision. But the point stood.
The dons then banged on a couple of goals to put the game out of reach. But wait this is Sydney, they managed to hang in with a couple of goals. Then the almost unbelievable happened when McPhee ran out of bounds with the ball, but the boundary umpire failed to make the righ call, the ball ended with Mcveigh Snr who snapped an amazing goal from tight in the pocket. Sydney then surged again, goals to Davis and C Bolton saw us only 2 points down. Buchanan thgen had an opportunity to snatch the game until his wobbling snap hit the padding on the post for only a point. Game over. Devastation, frustration.

Rnd 11 v Hawthorn
This was always going to loom as a danger. The Hawks have been playing well and were 2nd on the ladder.
After last weeks disappointing loss, the swans should come out firing.
A 3 goal first term to "Buddy" Franklin, the Hawks midfield make the swans look slow and lethargic. Kennelly goes down with a knee injury with the first minute. Things are not looking good. Dempster scores the swans only goal of the term.
Leo Barry gets the term off to a flier with 3 50m penalties and 2 goals. No Hall. No O'Loughlin. But the Swans are slowly turning the screws on the Hawks, and cracks are starting to show. The man called Spida is taking the boos in his stride and is getting better as the game progresses. The lead is reduced to a miserly 2 points by half time.
Another 4 goal qtr and the swans have hit the lead, and remain there at the end of the 3rd term.
A goal each to Davis and Buchanan, see the lead extend to 23. Game over. No, not yet. The Hawks slam on 2 goals in as many minutes, and almost a 3rd. But the siren beats the Hawks late charge and the swans win their 2nd game at the MCG.
Spida, Kirk, Leo all amongst the best.

Rnd 12 v Collingwood
Both teams had the week off. A big crowd was expected. An expectations were high, with a number of Collingwood key defenders and Buckley sitting on the sideline. The trademark slow start from the swans kicked in again. One goal to Ablett, from a silly 50m penalty from Holland, who wasn't even on the ground, and a rushed behind from limited opportunities. The pies With Thomas, Rocca and Cloke were looking dangerous up forward. Inaccuracy kept the swans in touch. Much the same in the 2nd term, the Pies were more ferocious at the ball and more skillful. The rare highlight of the term was a flying mark and goal from O'Keefe in the goal square. Hall was rarely sighted, and double teamed. MOL was been shown up by his much younger opponent Goldsack. The 3rd term became a stalemate with both teams kicking 2 goals a piece. 5.9 (39) points down at 3/4 time. They needed 7 goals to none after kicking only 3 goals. The greasy conditions didn't help us, while the Pies seemed to play like it was dry. Last quarter was a bit more inspiring but the Pies did enough to keep the deficit at an unmanageable level. 2 goals each to Hall and O'Loughlin made the scoreline look better. But the real story is the swans were never in the hunt.

Rnd 13 v Geelong
A cold and wet and sunny day in Geelong. The Swans played wet and soggy, while the Cats played bright and cheery.
2 goals to half time, against the all conquering cats, put the swans behind the 8-ball, again. The wet weather didn't help, but somehow they managed to outscore the cats in the 3rd term before stormong home in the 4th. While the swans got a slight sniff of victory, getting to within 11 points, the cats did enough to claw onto their well earned victory. Gary Ablett was superb, as were the rest of his team mates.
Kirk, the slowly getting back to form Goodes, Schmidt and O'Loughlin were amongst the best.

Magic's Milestone. 261 games in the Red and White, eclipsing Rantall's record 260.
Could the swans do it for Micky. Although dominating for most of the game, the scoreboard told a different story.
23 behinds, 11 goals, in good conditions. Leading by 2 points at half time, the swans continued their inaccuracy and dominance, to "run away" with the game in the final 2 quarters.
Goodes showed glimpses, O'loughlin played like someone much younger, McVeigh, Richards and Fosdike all put showed promise. C Bolton kept the ever dangerous Pavlich to 2 goals, while Kirk shut down Haselby. Malceski and Tadhg combined well, with J Bolton seeming more focused at the ball.

Maybe Kirk will take out the TLM?
He was pretty solid over the remainder of the season. But so were Goodes and B2, oh I just don't know, it is so exciting."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment
