Moore, Ablett and Phillips have MUCH better skills than Fosdike (hand and foot). But then, that's just my opinion. He has not had an impact on a game for 2 years. Even his 26 GF possessions were completely unmemorable.

Round 22 2004 (Melbourne, I think) he was BOG....or was it 2003...yes it was, 'cos Mickey did his hammy and Goodes got 2 votes for the Brownlow

Okay this maybe a little early, but with let's say Mattner and Miller joining the club and Monty going, what does our best 22 look like come round 1.

I will have a stab at it.

      FB: C Bolton B Miller L Barry
HB: T Kennelly LRT N Malceski
      C: M Mattner J Bolton L Ablett
      HF: R Okeefe B Hall A Scheinder
      FF: N Davis M O'Loughlin J McVeigh
      R: P Everitt B Kirk A Goodes
      I: D Jolly N Fosdike E Barlow T Schmidt

      E: T Richards J Crouch M Laidlaw S Dempster

We have much more flexibility with someone like Miller in the side if he can hold down full back. Both C Bolton and Barry can play tall or short and we have great run with those two plus Kennelly and Malceski.

        New version

        B: Brennan, Playfair, Barry
        HB: C Bolton, LRT, Mattner
        C: Kennelly, Buchanan, Malceski
        HF: O'Keefe, Hall, Davis
        F: O'Loughlin, Barlow, McVeigh
        R: Everitt, Goodes, Kirk

        Inter: Jolly, Laidlaw, Schmidt, Fosdike.

Emg from: Moore, Richards, White, Jack, Thornton, Brabazon, Bird,

Possibles from a defensive perspective depending what else we can develop: Ablett, Bevan

Out: Mathews, Crouch, J Bolton (I should note that I don't expect any of this to happen, but these outs are important if we are to improve our speed and disposal)

NMW, I'd be surprised if Brennan is not still on the rookie list.

Given some hard decisions are going to be made re: delistings, Brennan is still allowed to be retained on the rookie list as you can be on the rookie list for 2 years. Barlow is a no-brainer and for most of us who regularly watch the 2's, Jack is a no-brainer as well to be promoted.

Easy out is to keep Brennan on the rookie list for the time being.

PS. Good to see you got Moore and Bevan back in the 29.

If Brennan can stay on the rookie list and Jack can be promoted then that works nicely. Who do you put in the back pocket though? I'm assuming that's were Bevan comes back into the side. Or perhaps Jack, although I thought observers said he was more of a midfielder?

Emg from: Moore, Richards, White, Jack, Thornton, Brabazon, Bird,
I see what you're trying to do, but:
No defensive mids? Kirk is too good in a more positive role to tag. I fear Mathews is our best option - Ablett & McVeigh have poor records tagging & Is Jack ready? Maybe develop Schmidt in a run-with role??
Only two real 'inside' mids - Kirk and Buchanan. Schmidt again a maybe. If Kennelly, Malceski, Goodes, Fosdike & McVeigh are all in the side, do we also need Laidlaw? Jude would be the player to come in.

Would be pleased for Brennan to be tried ahead of Bevan, and for Playfair to be given a go forward or back. I'm yet to be convinced about Barlow, having seen only his two games v Collingwood last year. At this stage would prefer Richards playing as fourth tall in the backline.

                So:
                B: Brennan, Barry, Richards
                HB: C Bolton, LRT, Mattner
                C: Kennelly, Buchanan, Malceski
                HF: O'Keefe, Hall, Davis
                F: O'Loughlin, Playfair, McVeigh
                R: Everitt, Goodes, Kirk

Inter: Jolly, Schmidt, Fosdike, Mathews/Jack/J Bolton

Jack could become a defensive midfielder I guess.

Kirk is still our best tagger.

Kirk, Buchanan and Schmidt are inside midfielders - that's enough.

                  Richards can't kick straight.

The team I'd like to see:

                              B: Brennan, Barry, Richards

The likely team Roos will field:

It'd be just about right for Roos to name him on the bench!
As Roos' normal strategy is for other members of the team to not kick to Nick, would he allow Nick Davis to kick to himself?
We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.
