An interesting question, it reminds me of the old conundrum- if Nick Davis kicks a winning goal in a semi final and Paul Roos claims he didn't realize it was him, did Nick Davis really kick the goal?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I suspect you're right and these are the reasons why we could struggle next year.

I can't help but think if Paul Roos knew this to be true we might not be scrounging for a new game plan right now...

            B : Richards Playfair Barry

            Fullback is obviously a worry.
I realise my members of the 'ACT club' will probably all be in Roos team, and as others have said....that's the reality and the problem.

When did Ablett become a back pocket?

When did Buchanan become a forward?

Why continue to put J Bolton in the centre?

It is interesting the creativity that is expended on finding someone to replace Bevo as the small defender. Ablett?, Scneider (right), Jack (tiny tots get killed doing what Bevo does). Bevo is going to be given an opportunity to develop into a Stewie Maxfield type. In anticipation of howls of derision I mean a Maxfield type not that he will become Stewie. He doesn't have the magnificent left foot obviously. But a tough nut at the set pieces. People forget that in his debut year Bevo had a couple of 19 possession games and played primarily as a defensive midfielder. He may be used also as a "defensive" half forward flanker on the running attacking players off the half back line. As a gaol kicker Bevo achieved a 100% accuracy this season (ok its 3 out of 3) if you don't include the fresh air he achieved against the maggots. He has always been extremely accurate kicking for goal on the run or set shots. Well anyway I'm excited about next year

Bevan is less than 2" shorter than Jack and 7 kg lighter, and Jack is more than 2" taller and 7 kg heavier than Crouch, so Jack would have no problems in the back pocket.

Connolly doesn't see Bevan as a normal back pocket picking up the oppos small forward. He sees him as the guy who fills the hole and is prepared, as well as capable of, taking the hits. In many games this year he was exactly that.

I believe he is probably thinking that Jack won't be able to take those same hits.

Strangely enough, Jack is one of the few small players in the league equipped to take those same bumps, he is built like the proverbial brick outhouse. That said, he can offer so much more in attack running off his man, I doubt he will ever be instructed to fill that role that Bevan fills admirably, much to the complete blindness of the RWO inmates who refuse to open their eyes to what positives Bevan actually brings to the team as opposed to concentrating on his negatives.

You need at least one big backman.... and you don't need Mathews.

With Barry or Richards in the back pocket, then you have someone who can cover.

ok, I reckon the team will be:

                              B: Richards, Barry, C.Bolton
                              HB: Kennelly, LRT, Bevan
                              C: Mattner, Kirk, Melcheski
                              HF: O'Keefe, Hall, Buchanan
                              F: Davis, O'Loughlin, Playfair
                              R: Jolly, Goodes, J.Bolton

Int from: Fosdike, Schmidt, Everitt, Ablett, McVeigh, Barlow, Jack, Laidlaw, Moore, Matthews

                              The team I would play:

                              B: Richards, Playfair/White, C.Bolton
                              HB: Kennelly, LRT, Barry
                              C: Mattner, Kirk, Melcheski
                              HF: O'Keefe, Hall, Buchanan
                              F: Davis, O'Loughlin, Everitt
                              R: Jolly, Goodes, Schmidt
