Everyone is tradeable

Aren't you being a bot selective Hammo? The Illegals want picks 1, 3 and 20 plus a player. Not just pick 3. On that Eski could be worth one top 5 pick.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

For a start, anyone who signed a new contract this year is not trade-able. AFL rule. So that should discount a 6 or 7 players for a start.
Since we have a lot of older players, the smart decision would be to trade anyone over 27 for a younger player to redress this imbalance.
Knowing Roos' love for old players we are likely to trade a young player for 28 y.o. Johnstone, and put us in more poo.Comment

Not many established players get traded for top 5 picks, and if Malceski were traded, I don't think he'd attract one."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Probably more the point is that not many players worth a top 5 pick get traded, because they are worth more to the team they are with!
Who was the last team to voluntarily trade a player worth that much?
N.Brown, no.
Ottens, no.
Carr, no.
Stevens, no.
The only one I can think of is Croad, and he went for the #1 pick...He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

Are you sure? I thought the rule was that you can trade a contracted player as long as they agree to it, but cannot trade a player in the year they have signed a new contract. I thought that was it at least (and caused some heartache on here leading in to trade week in the year Saddo had signed a new deal).I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Maybe he's talking in relative terms, as in these players are Judd-like compared to our current blue-collar, working class midfield of Cortinas (did I miss a cliche?)Comment

How many world beaters have we picked up via trading or the draft
that have turned out to be duds, at the expense of our reserve players.
Roos says he is looking at outside running midfielders, when we have a
bloke like Ryan Brabazon who had a great season last year, and IMHO
has earned the right to get a chance in the big time.
I can't remember the dud we got from Richmond, who only played a
handfull of games a few years back.Comment

Wasnt Daffy thrown in as part of some other deal at no cost to Sydney? If I recall correctly, throwing in his name, along with the likes of Alison and Tingay, is irrelevent to this discussion. If you want to look at successful trades try Williams, Schwass, Schauble, Hall, Lockett, Davis and Maxfield. Even Richards, Everitt and Jolly.Occupational hazards:
