Just to add a few more comments on Playfair, they had Bomber Thompson on the radio after the draft and he indicated that they wanted to retain Playfair as they see beleive he is good enough to play as a KP Defender in the AFL but with Egan, Harley and Scarlett that he was just not going to get a chances at this stage unless injuries occured.
He didin't want to see him go but them's the breaks.
I went down and watched the VFL GF live (around the corner and nothing to do) and was most impressed with Playfair cast a defender role. Like most tall guys who look a bit ungainly and are not natural players they tend to play their best when given simple tasks.
I think Playfair as a KP Defender could work very well for us.

There are some that have questioned whether Pick 26 was adequate compensation for the two. What the Swans did was show that it was a considerate organisation in that it sought a new home for a player no longer required, even though the compensation to the club was not adequate. There was a fair bit of that going around this trade week.
And as for how cleaver Ross Lyon is with all those players he got for next to nothing: Schneider, Dempster, King and Gardiner. I think he will wake up one morning and think 'How in the world did we get all this mediocrity on our list'?
Based on 2007 performances, this doesn't quite look like the core of a championship team.Comment

I thought pure wingers were more or less obsolete nowadays. And even if they're not, there's not a huge amount of difference between an attacking HBF and a wingman. Crows fans' objections seemed to be based on Mattner being stuck in a backpocket.Comment

Every post I've read defending the Playfair ('Dirtyboy') trade, cast him as a defender. Which, given his recent success at VFL level, makes sense.....
The problem is Roos has said ,very clearly, that he will play him as a forward... "To help out Hall,MOL and co". He has shown very little, over 3 seasons, on the cats forward line. He is a slow lumbering type, and his second efforts are lamentable. Anyway, don't we have Spida and Jolly for that role ??
Seems strange Roos wouldn't try him in defence first..Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Roosy has stated that he will play Playfair in the forward line not in the backline so Tiger will remain in the HBF posistion and Melcho will move to the midfield. .My mistake i thought you ment that Mattner would take over the roles of Tiger and or Melcho in the HBF positions. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Saying something and doing something are completely different matters.

So yes Playfair was seen as the fourth tall defender at the club behind Scarlett, Harley and Egan.
