Makes the Schneider trade even more mystifying...it's worth remembering that we probably wouldn't have made the GF in 2005 if not for those two crumbed goals in a minute during that quarter.

I think one thing Vogels seemed to have more of than Grundy was poise, he just looked a smarter footballer. I don't see much of the ressies, but I guess it was his failure to dominate at reserves level that counted against him in the end.

Oldman Pop correctly called all the ins and outs at the Swans selection table before they were officially named through the media.

He won't be far off the mark.

I wonder why we haven't announced them already though.

If they've already decided then there's no reason to keep it a secret.

Give Vogels a crack!! they seem to bring him in, play him for 20 mins he usually registers with a score then they drop him. anyone who has ever playd footy knows that does wonders for your confidence.........

Not all, there were a few I remember where he/she/it was wrong.

I liked the look of Vogels....but check the game time between the two. It's significant.

                I AGREE WITH PLUGGER46.

Off the top of my head
                  • It is 17 games to Vogels vs. 14 to Grundy for their careers, however 11 of Vogels' games came in 2005 so for the past two years it is actually 6 to 14 in Grundy's favour.
                  • Time on ground possibly in those games? This year is probably a bad sample size to compare as Grundy played 8 games and Vogels just 3, but Grundy was on the ground in those games 73% of the time versus 59% for Vogels. I know there have been doubts over Vogels' fitness, but I'm not sure that he was so puffed he could only play that number of games.
                  • Grundy (to me at least) appeared to be used in a couple of games in a set position/going in with a known job to do- Vogels appeared to always come in as a utility only (just my perception). On top of that Grundy appeared to have the opportunity to play multiple games in a row in the same position.
                  • Vogels got a senior gig for round 1 this year and was dropped after picking up 6 disposals and 1 goal, Grundy was then given a run of 3 straight games where he was not able to top those numbers from Vogels. Obviously stats don't tell the whole story, but I don't recall Grundy performing better than Vogels through those games.
                  • Vogels was brought in for 1 game at a time this year, whilst Grundy seemed to get a few more groupings of games together (and as per the point above, I'm not entirely convinced he was "earning" his spot for the following week with some of his performances)
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I think this bit was new.

Also Doyle not delisted (still has contract so makes little sense).
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
